Time dedicated to you for architectural changes: There have been questions about why the Community Service Coordinator's (CSC) office is open for architectural changes from 9-11 AM. This time is reserved for our residents to come in and meet with Katy Mosier to discuss what's needed to get their project off the ground and compliant with governing documents. The employees in the front office can answer some, but not all, of the home improvement questions, and you may be asked to return during the 9-11 AM timeframe. When the CSC's office is not open, the CSC is busy processing home sales (11 so far in November), and homes going into escrow, which involves working with the realtors and title companies, as well as the Architectural Compliance Team for home inspections (there are 10 to date in November). Violation letters are also processed through this office (there were around 400 in November); with 400 letters written you can imagine how many phone calls are received with questions about the violations. This provides a little insight as to what happens when the office isn't open. Please plan to bring your requests to the CSC's office from 9-11 AM, Monday-Friday and please be considerate to our employees out front when this time frame is brought to your attention. If you forget the times, they are published in the Tipster monthly on page 2 under Community Services.
The Architectural Review Committee will not be meeting the 4th Tuesday in December, but representatives from ARC will be in the Activity Center on December 14 and 28 to answer questions regarding the Development Standards and the Tract Declarations. The time we have scheduled is 9:15-Noon.
Melissa Martin, Senator Jeff Flake's assistant, will be here again Tuesday, December 13, at 10:30 AM in the Activity Center / Kachina Lounge if there are issues or questions for which you'd like help from your Senator in Washington. (Sponsored by the Government Affairs Committee.)
Election Preparations: As you are aware, we will be offering an electronic voting option for our election in March. To prepare to receive the electronic ballot, please do the following:
1. Create contact - If you haven't already done so, please create a contact in your email program with the name of SCOV Elections and the email address of elections@vote-now.com. This will allow your email program to recognize the sender of our election ballot.
2. Send test email - Also, please send a test email to elections@vote-now.com with the subject TEST. (There will be no reply to the test email, but your email program may see a sent message as an indication that this is a good address to receive from as well.)
Note: On January 9 a verification email will be sent from elections@vote-now.com to prepare for the election in March 2017. We'll send you an email to remind you that it's coming.

Watching Water Consumption Like A Hawk
Recently, a SCOV resident received an unusually high water bill. Having recently reduced their outdoor irrigation and making no other changes in their water use, they wondered if the Town water utility rates had increased or if their water meter was defective, did they have a leak or other issue that caused the increase? The resident remembered that a few months ago they signed up for a free service that claimed to monitor water usage, but they had never looked at it. This recent water bill prompted them to check out the monitoring service, AquaHawk Alerting, a free service provided to residents by the Oro Valley Water Utility. Lo and behold, they see a sudden, significant increase in their usage reported on the system. Even more interesting, the report shows about 20 gallons a day being consumed during a series of days when they were out of town and their irrigation was shut off. This was a clear indication of a water leak. Hours of research and troubleshooting pointed toward a leaky toilet fill valve and a leaky sprinkler valve. Both were being prevented from fully closing due to small pieces of debris lodged in the valves. After the valve repairs, AquaHawk verified that the excess water usage has stopped.
The new water meters recently installed in SCOV report a home's water usage to the water utility's system in almost real time. That data is fed to the AquaHawk system so residents can view their usage, also almost in real time. To learn more about Oro Valley's AquaHawk Alerting system, click here. Learn how to register in the system, set up leak alerts and more. It's a great system that could save you lots of money.
