Online Bulletin Board:  Do you have items to sell or want to buy? Click here to check out our on-line bulletin board? New items to sell or buy are added on a regular basis.

Golf course walkers and riders: Here's another reminder that if you are enjoying a leisurely walk or ride on the golf course cart paths, the hours you can do this at this time of the year are before 7 AM and after 5 PM. Also, it's important to keep in mind that a few golfers may still be on the course after 5 PM. In a case such as this, golfers always have preference. So, please step out of the way of any golfers who are playing to assure you are not hit by a golf ball.

House Painting: If you are going to paint the exterior of your home, please choose a color scheme from Appendix D of the SCOV Development Standards. Repainting must conform to those colors. There is a display of all the current schemes in the kitchen area of the Welcome Center. There are also books which are available for 24 hour checkout showing the colors. After you have chosen a new paint scheme it is important to fill out the Paint Submittal Form found on the website or in our Welcome Center. There is no waiting period. The submittal form will be approved as soon as it is brought to the reception area of our Welcome Center. It is important that this procedure is followed so that paint information may be included in the resident file for future reference. Many of you will call years after painting to inquire about the colors of your house. If you have already painted, and failed to fill out the submittal form, please contact Katy Mosier kmosier@suncityorovalley.com so that the color information can be brought up to date in the file.

The Desert Oasis Renovation Committee is now an active committee and meets every Monday at 2 PM in WC1. Guests are welcome to attend. If you wish to email the committee, the address is: doreno@suncityorovalley.com. All emails will be answered.

Prevent slip and fall in the AFC Exercise Studios: A person was injured in the Exercise Studio recently due to water on the floor that caused a slip and fall. To help prevent this kind of unfortunate incident, please bring liquids into the Studio in a non-spill water bottle. Thank you for your cooperation.

Monday Madness at the SCOV Gift Shop is a great place to start your holiday shopping. Our next Monday Madness will be held on November 14 from 9 AM to 12:30 PM. Please come visit us and shop!

Attention New Homeowners: If you have closed on a new home in our community within the last year, please check with the front office to make sure we have the correct mailing address on file. At closing, many new owners ask that paperwork be sent to an address different from the Sun City address. Once you move here, if that information is not updated at the Welcome Center, your SCOV mail may be going to an old address. Filling out the orange Sun City Oro Valley Community Directory information sheet is not a substitute for this procedure because only Sun City information is included in that form. Each time you change your mailing address, please advise us in the Welcome Center.

Drainage areas between homes: Are you aware that most of the drainage areas that are between homes are the private property of the lot owners who own the lots on each side of the drainage area? Due to the fact that these areas are private property, you are asked to not use these areas in any way without the property owner's permission. This is an especially important issue on Alamo Canyon where people are often accessing the open space area behind homes on Alamo Canyon through the private drainage areas.

Board Candidate Questions Sought - The Election Committee is seeking questions that may be asked of the Board candidates during this election cycle.  If you have a question you'd like the Election Committee to consider asking the candidates, please click here to submit it.  Thank you for being involved in this process.

Significant landscape changes to the Development Standards as approved at the October 25th Board meeting are:
  • Only dwarf oleanders will be on the approved plant list.
  • Shrubs that obstruct a neighbor's mountain view will be required to be trimmed to 6 feet or less. This will take a resident complaint to be enforced.
  • No shrub or planting which significantly obstructs sight lines of persons exiting a driveway in an automobile, golf car or the like, shall be allowed. Such shrubs must be pruned to a height of 42" or less to allow a safe exit.
  • Limitation on tree height above roof top was not approved by the Board
  • The Board asked the ARC to address the Development Standards approved and prohibited plant list.
If you are returning to SCOV, please make sure to stop by the Administration Center to pick up your 2016-2017 stickers for your facility access card. Please also advise us of any phone or email changes, or you may complete the form online. We look forward to saying hello.

ILR Samplers: Next week the ILR (Institute of Learning in Retirement) Samplers will participate in the election process by a look back to the 19th and 20th centuries to learn how artists painted to reflect their views of political issues of the day. The presentation is titled "Gericault's The Raft of the Medusa and the Politics of Art" and will discuss the reaction of Louis XVIII to this painting which (not so subtly) was unflattering to the king and his policies. Other celebrated examples of political painting by Rubens, David, Manet, and Picasso will also be discussed. In time to participate in our election fever, the program will be presented on Thursday, November 3, 2 PM, Catalina Vista (no fee) by Kevin Justus. Dr. Justus is a popular art history lecturer at the U of A. His most recent specialty is Louis XV and Versailles.

Dispose-A Med will be held on November 8, 9-11 AM at the Activity Center. Conducted by the Oro Valley Police Department, it is sponsored by the Sun City Vistoso Community Foundation. Unused or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications in pill or liquid form are accepted as well as veterinarian medications. Please keep medications in their original containers. Empty containers are also accepted. Bins are provided for anonymously dropping off the medications. Batteries, hazardous wastes, metal or glass inhalation containers, syringes and Epi-pens are not accepted.

Donations Still Needed: The SCOV Women's Auxiliary is collecting gently used women's accessories (purses, scarves, jewelry, belts, hats, shoes and designer/decorated jackets) for a Fall Luncheon and Accessories Boutique to be held on November 5. The Boutique will open to all non-luncheon ticket holders from 1-4 PM. Donation drop-off boxes will be at the Desert Oasis and the Aquatic Fitness Center until Oct. 31. No clothes, please (other than designer jackets). Jan Almer is coordinating the donations, so contact her at 520-818-2504 or at hopkealmer@yahoo.com with questions. There are still a few luncheon tickets available to purchase. Please contact Kathy Hrdy at 825-4723 for tickets.
