Project updates:
  • Restaurant: The last portion of the concrete surfacing, which is the back patio and outside access to the restrooms is underway now. I expect that it will be completed Friday or early next week. Also, the Implementation Committee is working on some interior improvements. There will be enlarged photos of the local natural landscape hung in the entryway and by the host stand, plus the bottom portion of the entry wall will be painted the berry color that exists in other areas in the restaurant and a wood rail will be installed that will separate the lighter and darker colors on the wall.
  • Solar: All inspections by the Town have been completed and the project has passed inspection. The solar power has been activated at Catalina Vista and Desert Oasis. When the meters are set by TEP at the Activity Center and Restaurant in an estimated one to two weeks, the solar will be activated in those locations. With the exception of a few minor pick up items, the on-site physical work is complete.
2016-17 COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP LIST
The membership of our SCOV Committees may be found here. It's a pretty impressive list of brain power on behalf of SCOV!

New General Manager hired: After a very intense and detailed search, the Board of Directors has hired a new General Manager. At the request of the new GM, his name will not be released until November 30. The new GM will start on Monday, December 5. I expect to work with him for a few days to best assure that the transition is as smooth as possible. It's worth noting that I have known the new GM for a few years through industry-related activities and can assure you that he is a highly professional, knowledgeable and dedicated individual. With your support and encouragement, I'm confident he will meet with great success as SCOV's GM.

New Food and Beverage Manager: After mutually agreeing to make a change, Chris Sapp will be stepping aside as The Views Food and Beverage Manager and Aalt Brouwer will be assuming the helm on November 1. In the meantime, Chris will continue to manage the restaurant and Aalt will be getting up to speed by coming in on Mondays during his day off from his duties at Hotel Congress.

Sunrisers exercise class: Starting Wednesday, November 2, the Sunrisers exercise class will start at 7AM in the Aquatic and Fitness Center. The Sunrisers meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If you are an early riser ...come join the class.

Political signs: In case you are not aware, it is a violation of Arizona Revised Statutes, 16-1019 to remove or deface a political sign as long as it is in a residential yard or a road right-of-way. I have had reports that some signs have been removed. If you're involved in this activity, I highly recommend that you refrain from removing or damaging any political signs. If you see someone removing or defacing a political sign, you may call Oro Valley Police, as they will respond to these types of issues.

Telephone Directory:
Help is needed to organize and deliver the new 2016 SCOV telephone directories on Friday, October 21, 1 - 4 PM, Activity Center, Auditorium. Please note that the notice in the Tipster indicated that volunteers will be needed on Saturday, which is not correct. Please email Carolyn Lerch, gclerch@comcast.net, if you can help. The telephone directory has been updated on the website and there is also the usual New Residents, changes, and corrections information sheet in conjunction with the directory. Thank you.

Ken Lamberton will speak and sign copies of his book Chasing Arizona: One Man's Yearlong Obsession with the Grand Canyon State, a 2015 Southwest Book of the Year. His presentation will include lots of photographs of our great state. There is no charge for this event, however to help plan for attendance you will need to obtain a ticket from the Library.

Medicare information: As a public service to the community of SCOV, Vistoso Community Church will be hosting a special session, led by an experienced insurance broker, to assist anyone who may not understand any changes that their Medicare Supplement Insurance provider will be making to their coverage effective January 1, 2017. This session will be held in the church Fellowship Hall at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, October 19. Everyone is welcome. To help with the setup, please call the church office and tell them how many will be attending at (520) 825-0652, or email vistosocc@icloud.com.

Donations Still Needed: The SCOV Women's Auxiliary is collecting gently used women's accessories (purses, scarves, jewelry, belts, hats, shoes and designer/decorated jackets) for a Fall Luncheon and Accessories Boutique to be held on Nov. 5. Donation drop-off boxes will be at the Desert Oasis and the Aquatic Fitness Center until Oct. 31. No clothes, please (other than designer jackets). Jan Almer is coordinating the donations, so contact her at 520-818-2504 or at hopkealmer@yahoo.com with questions. Tickets for this event will be sold at the Activity center Friday, Oct 14 from 10-11 AM.

SCOV Republican Club has invited The Town of Oro Valley Planning Department to present the Your Voice - Our Future 10-year plan: We will be voting on this plan in the upcoming election and this will be a time for you to ask questions concerning the direction of our town. Plus, the Club will also have a speaker in opposition to Proposition 205, the marijuana initiative. Come and get the facts behind the claims that this drug can be regulated "just like alcohol." Everyone is invited next Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 3 PM in the Activity Center.

HOMEOWNERS NEW TO SCOV who purchased within the last six months are invited to attend a New Resident Breakfast on Friday, October 21 at 8 AM in the Activity Center. Space is limited. RSVP required by Sunday, October 16 if you will be able to attend. To register, click here. This is a casual, fun event and we certainly hope you can make it. Thank you! We look forward to meeting you.

Returning to SCOV? If you are returning, please make sure to stop by the Administration Center to pick up your 2016-2017 stickers for your facility access card. Please also advise us of any phone or email changes or you may complete this form online. We look forward to saying hello.

The new CAC Loan Room web page is available for requests for future needs. Members of SCOV can log in under Member Services and find a link to the CAC Loan Room web page. This service, along with the computerization of the Loan Room, will provide more efficient service to the community for their medical equipment, child-care, and out-of-town visitor needs. Check out the new web page here or see us at the Loan Room.
