Projects update:
  • Restaurant: Although the restaurant is fully operational, there are several finishing touches that are needed before the remodeling and expansion will be complete. Some of the furnishings remain to be delivered; improvements to the dining area entryway will be improved with artwork, probably an additional light fixture and possibly some accent paint; the stairs from the cart parking to the lounge need to be completed and pass inspection; the landscaping in the grassy knoll requires irrigation repair and re-growth of the grass; and during over seeding all of the exterior concrete will be surfaced so that the appearance will be greatly improved and uniform. Once all of this work is complete, we'll have a fantastic finished project, which is not to state that it isn't fantastic right now.
  • Solar: The solar project is coming along mostly as expected. A problem has existed for a few days in that a large portion of the parking around the restaurant and in back of the Welcome Center has been blocked off by the solar work. Fortunately some of this parking will be opened up today so that access to the restaurant will be improved.
  • Catalina Vista Upgrades: During September there will be upgrades to several areas of Catalina Vista. The three meeting rooms will be closed during this time (September 6-25). Among the upgrades is a new AV system in all three meeting rooms courtesy of a gift from Institute of Learning in Retirement. Projectors will be mounted to the ceiling and the presenter area will be modified for ease of use. The lighting will also be updated to enhance the presentation experience. Other changes include replacement of the partitions, relocating some light switch for easier access, updating kitchen appliances and the flooring. In addition to these changes the building will be changed to a front door access only. You will need to use the front door to gain entry to the building. We look forward to you seeing the improvements at the end of September as we gear up for the busy season here in SCOV.
Oro Valley General Plan: Please investigate the Oro Valley General Plan we are to vote on this year. It will be in effect for ten years. Information may be found here: https://www.orovalleyaz.gov/generalplan/yourvoiceov

The SCOV Library is looking for volunteers: Volunteers needed who are willing to repair book bindings. Prior skills would be wonderful, but not necessary as they can be taught. The number of books in need of repair varies, but runs about 1-2 books per week. It would be nice to train two volunteers to share the task. Please contact Kate kcusumano@suncityorovalley.com or 917-8083.

Library Author Talk: Tickets will be available in the Library beginning Wednesday, August 24, for the J.A. Jance event to be held on Monday, September 12, 1 PM in the Auditorium. Tickets are free, but in order to help us plan for attendance, please obtain a ticket for the event.
