Projects update:
  • Restaurant/Lounge Final inspections on the lounge area are scheduled for Friday, June 24th. Assuming everything passes and a temporary certificate of occupancy is issued, the restaurant and lounge will be closed for the weekend to transfer equipment and operating supplies with the plan of opening the lounge on Monday, May 27th. The restaurant area will remain closed until the work is completed in that area which is projected to be the first part of August. Keep in mind that the lounge will have two temporary walls and a temporary door. When the folding glass doors come in and are installed, there will be some but very little disruption to the lounge operation.
  • Solar/roofing: As reported for the past few weeks, this project is moving along as expected. Work in the restaurant area has been initiated and will continue until early August.
  • Desert Oasis pool: The deck work is coming along as expected and the pool should be open again within two or three days.
  • AFC pool:
I don't have an exact date yet but repairs to the AFC pool deck will be underway in the near future at which time the pool will be temporarily closed.

The Youth on Their Own/Northwest Auxiliary, a Partner Organization of SCOV, is sponsoring a Back to School collection of new personal care items and school supplies for the YOTO Mini Mall. Bring donations to the SCOV Activity Center lobby on July 11 or July 15 from 9-10:30 am. Cash and checks made out to YOTO will also be accepted. All donations are tax deductible.

Heat, Animals and Children: There's considerable information in the news and in other sources about the danger of leaving children and animals in hot cars during the summer. This is a very important message that can't have too many reminders. Another heat related issue is walking at the appropriate time. For your own health and that of your dog or grandchildren, please be aware of the time of day and temperature. For example, if you put your hand on the sidewalk or street and it's too hot for you, it's probably too hot for your dog. The bottom line is try to walk early and late in the day when the sun and heat is at its lowest.

Club Listing in the Tipster: Over the years the Tipster Editorial Committee has heard legitimate criticisms from readers who have asserted that it is often difficult to find specific club articles in the Tipster. To try to rectify this situation, members of the committee have looked at various ways of reorganizing the A to Z club listings. One possible solution that caught our attention is the Category" listing of clubs on the SCOV website. You can view this list by going to suncityorovalley.com/clubs/ and scrolling down to "Category." This list would require a few tweaks to bring it in line with Tipster standards, but it would provide a consistency between the website list of SCOV clubs and the way they are displayed in the Tipster. Direct comments and questions to Co-Chair Lou Phillippi, 638-6957

Ally Miller Event: The Republican Club Is host to Board of Supervisor Ally Miller.  She is the headline speaker and will present her "Roads Project." Everyone is invited and the meeting starts at 3PM on Tues. the 21st of June in the Activity Center.

On-line Payment Notice:  If you wish to pay your dues online, the surcharge is now $14.95. This is a bank charge, not a charge from SCOV. To pay online, simply go to Member Services>This & That>Pay Annual Dues.
