Projects update:
  • Restaurant: A reasonably firm schedule indicates that the Lounge should be open on or about June 24th. Between now and then there is a considerable amount of work to do but all is scheduled and should be completed according to the W.E. O'Neil superintendent. In order to accomplish this opening date temporary walls and a door must be installed between the lounge and new terrace. Once the glass folding doors arrive, they will be installed. This is expected to occur in late June or early July. It would seem that we could simply wait for the wall doors; however, the flooring and bar equipment installation can't occur until the lounge is fully closed in. So, if we waited for the glass doors, there would be a considerable delay to complete work that can be completed this week and next week with a temporary wall and door.
  • Solar/roofing: This project is progressing very well. Fortunately the schedule for the solar work has been changed so that the work around the restaurant area will be taking place during the restaurant construction rather than in September and October.
  • Desert Oasis: Desert Oasis is being painted on the exterior with the new paint colors. In addition to the exterior painting, management is developing a preliminary renovation plan for Desert Oasis that will be presented to the Board for consideration in the fall.
  • Catalina Vista: Several interior repairs and replacement are needed in Catalina Vista. In order to get this work completed, it will be necessary to close the meeting rooms from August 1st through August 19th. All Catalina Vista meeting rooms have been rescheduled in other facilities.
The Architectural Review Committee will have a speaker from Oro Valley after our regular meeting on June 28th. She plans to answer some ARC questions from the committee regarding setbacks and possibly you have questions regarding construction on your property. She is scheduled for 3 PM in the Welcome Center, meeting room 3. All committee meetings are open to residents of SCOV.

SCOV insurance:
Fortunately the overall insurance cost for the Association will be level or possibly slightly lower for the next fiscal year. This is very good news as there are several other expense areas that have upward cost pressure which will be monitored carefully.

Reminder to those of you who rent out your home
-
  1. Your membership cards are non-transferable and may only be used by you. You may not give your renters your cards.
  2. Before any renter(s) cards are issued, we MUST have your membership cards on file in the office AND your HOA dues must be up to date.
  3. There is a new form that must be completed by you and returned by your renter(s) when they come in to receive their renter's cards. Please find this form here  or on the website (www.scovaz.com). Go to Association, Governing Documents and click on Renter/Delegated Form.
  4. The issuance fee for a renter card is $25 for up to two cards and that is good for the length of the lease.
  5. Please be advised the front office will not keep on file any future rental agreements. It is the responsibility of the renter to submit all paperwork upon arrival to SCOV.
Please contact the administration office with any questions - 520-825-3711.

It's time to color!
Everywhere you go you see adult coloring books for sale. All you need are the books and colored pencils. We would like to provide you a time and place to gather to color with friends. The Desert Oasis is available every Wednesday, starting June 15th, to gather and color from 2pm to 4pm. Remember you can't make copies out of coloring books due to copyright laws. No special talent needed, just stay inside the lines and have fun.

AFC pool access:
The warmer weather seems to bring more residents to our pools. This is just a reminder that the only entrance to the AFC pool is by scanning your fob or access card at the front entrance door.  The gates in the fenced areas across from the spa (north) are not entrances. These gates in the fence are for emergencies only.

Wednesday June 15 -Diamondbacks Bus Trip:
The D-backs will be playing the Dodgers. There will be only one bus. Tickets will be $48.PP.  Price includes a luxury bus and game tickets with wonderful seating at the ball park. You can go to the concession stands or be served at your seat. No worry about the weather the stadium is air conditioned. Tickets still on sale at the Welcome Center. See Coco or Pam

Dogs and Golf cars: Just a quick reminder...please keep dogs on leashes and pick up after them. Also, please do not let children drive golf cars. It's dangerous and a violation of the law. Thanks for your cooperation.

Clubs and Committees:
Please be reminded that if you have an event taking place and you want a notice in the SCOV report, please send the notice to me and I'll include it in the report. This report may be the first one that does not include any committee or club notices.

Election registration notice:
If you are registered as an "Independent" you could forfeit your right to vote in the Primary election on Aug. 30. The County Recorder has sent out notices to all registered Independents. One must either request a ballot from one of the parties recognized by the State of Arizona or request a ballot for the Town election only.  Independents should contact the County Recorder, 724-4330, and request a ballot for the Oro Valley Council election.

Aluminum Can Recycling Program:
Hopefully, most of our residents are aware of the Aluminum Can Recycling Program that is a fund-raiser for the Loan Room. It is an ongoing project of the Community Assistance Committee (CAC), staffed entirely by volunteers. The cans are collected at locations within SCOV and sorted daily at the main collection area behind the Activity Center kitchen. It sounds simple, but a volunteer sorts these cans on a daily basis, even though the collection area signs specifically state "ALUMINUM CANS ONLY."   Why, because we get plastic and glass bottles, steel cans, and other miscellaneous material that has to be removed before we deliver the aluminum cans to the scrap yard.
Recently, we have been receiving a numerous quantity of small aluminum cat food cans dropped loose in the collection bin. These loose cans have to be picked up by our volunteer who is working on the day the cans are in the bin. Remember, these are volunteers working for the betterment of SCOV for the benefit of the CAC, and in return, you the resident, if you are in need of any item that can be supplied by the Loan Room, free of charge to you.
We ask that all cans be placed in the collection bins in the plastic bag, small box, etc., or whatever you bring them in, and NOT dumped in loose. If you do this, it would be most appreciated by the volunteers who sort the collection bins on a daily basis.
