Pro Shop project: Since it doesn't make sense to spend money on a temporary handicap parking area so that it meets code, the architect is designing a permanent handicap parking and access system. This plan will be completed this week and issued to the Town either late this week or early next week. Once the Town approves the plans, bids will be secure to complete necessary asphalt work. A timeline for completion is not known at this time, but it will take at least a few weeks before the work is complete.

Restaurant/Lounge: The team continues to work on fine tuning specifications. Changes have been made in the proposed furnishing, which will result in further savings. Also, as it turns out the Health Department will not approve the access that was planned from the lounge to the kitchen. As a result, an alternative access is planned that will use the current access to the kitchen. The new plan should also result in a savings. Last, within a week or so plans will be distributed to contracted to get updated bids on the revised plans while the Town continues to review the plans for approval.

The Board invites you: The Board of Directors wants to invite you to each and every Study Session and Board Meeting. Your thoughts and input are important and one of the best ways to be heard is by attending these monthly meetings. In addition, to this invitation the Board would like you to stop by the meetings 15 minutes before the meetings begin so you and the Board Members can have an opportunity for a casual conversation. This pre-meeting period will give you an opportunity to have one-on-one time with Board Members so you can either talk about light social issues or an Association related issue that may be very important to you. The next Study Session will be held on Thursday, January 14 at       9 AM in the Welcome Center, Conference Room 3. Please stop by a little early.

Are you planning on exterior work to your home? If you are planning to make any exterior alterations including, additions, painting, fencing, walls, landscaping changes or any work that alters the appearance of your property, you must first submit plans and receive written approval from the Architectural Review Committee (ARC), The Town of Oro Valley requires permits for many alterations as well. It is wise to check with both the ARC and the Town prior to doing any work. Also take the time to read through the Development Standards and CC&R's in sections that pertain to your specific alterations so you are better informed. The forms necessary for submitting plans, and staff assistance, may be obtained on our website or through the administration office. It is wise to have approval prior to signing any contracts or purchasing any items that may not be able to be returned.

Joe Bourne Show: If you plan on attending the Joe Bourne show in February we suggest you get your tickets early. In the first two days, of ticket sales, almost 100 tickets have been sold

Having the uncomfortable conversation presentation: The Sun City Democrat Club invites everyone to join them on Saturday January 9 at     1 PM in the Navajo Room of the Activity Center to hear guest speaker Quiana Dickenson address the topic of  "Having the uncomfortable conversation".  Quiana is highly skilled and trained in conflict resolution, mediation, community conflict management, communication, training and public speaking. She is the founder of Tamar Communication and Education Consulting, which advocates and trains individuals and organizations on effective communication, education, public policy and political initiatives and practices.  Meetings are open to everyone regardless of party affiliation.

Gift Shop Monday Madness Sale: On Monday, January 11, we will be holding a Monday Madness sale from 9 AM -12:30 PM.

Keep Moving Event: To help with your New Year's resolutions, your Active Health Committee is sponsoring "Keep Moving", a presentation by SCOV resident and Personal Trainer, Ray Jerkins, ACE, CPT on January 15th at 1 PM in the Auditorium. Ray will focus on a well-rounded exercise program that includes aerobics, balance, strength training, and flexibility. He will provide tips for staying enthusiastic and committed to our individualized programs. There is no cost for attending but we encourage you to obtain a ticket at the Welcome Center beginning January 4.

Fall Prevention Class: Your Active Health Committee is considering offering an exercise class focused on balance and fall prevention. The class would include a group of simple Tai Chi moves that have been proven to decrease fall risks in community dwelling older adults (like us). If you are interested in attending, please let Ester Leutenberg know at Ester36@gmail.com or 818-0016.

Club Fair time correction: The Club Fair is Friday, February 5 at 1 PM not 7 PM as stated in the January Tipster.

House Number Lights - Please Check: For directional advice to visitors, and more importantly to emergency vehicles, it is important to have house number lights on your home that are easily seen. Illuminated house number boards are required to be maintained on all homes as stated in our Development Standards, under Article II, Section G7.

You can be proactive by viewing your house number board from the street, at night, to see whether or not all numbers are clearly visible.  Replacement light bulbs may be purchased from Ace Hardware and are identified by them as "Sun City Bulbs 1815."  They come two to a package and are available at a small cost.  Ace Hardware also sells replacement parts for the actual fixture.

For your own safety, your cooperation in correcting this problem, if you have it, is appreciated.

SCOV Community Telephone Directory from Carolyn Lerch:  The SCOV Website/Online directory has been updated.  Please check your listing to ensure its correctness.  Also, the listing of new adds and corrections to previous input appears in a new line-add on the directory site.  I know that several of you want to see the names of the new folks for various club contact reasons etc.  And while you are looking at your listing (especially in the actual book), let me know if I can shorten your names (like removing initials), be less formal with your name in the listing, or shorten your former occupations to still be understandable. Email me, thanks.  Carolyn Lerch gclerch@comcast.net

New Scam: I don't have all the details on this scam; however, what has been reported is that residents are being contacted by phone or through the internet encouraging them to play an online lotto. To do this, they residents are asked to give out their banking information so fees for the lotto can be taken out of their bank accounts. The important point here is that no one should give out personal banking information over the phone or through the internet unless you dealing with an organization that you know is 100% legitimate.
