Café/Lounge project presentation: As noted in the previous two SCOV reports, the Implementation Team will be presenting the café/lounge project plan to the membership on Wednesday, November 4th at 1 p.m. in the Auditorium. The Team is looking forward to reviewing the plan details and resulting cost that have taken extensive hours of volunteer and professional time over the past few months to develop.

Solar project presentation: As you may be aware, the Properties Committee has been working on a proposed solar project to supply electrical power for approximately 80% or more of the common area buildings' electrical needs. After hours and hours of preparation and analysis, the Committee has selected a preferred contractor who will attend an upcoming presentation to answer questions and the Committee will present the proposed plan to the membership on Saturday, November 7th at 2 p.m. in Catalina Vista. This is a large, important proposed project that is more than worth your time to get all the details you can. This is the final presentation to the membership prior to seeking Board approval.

Oregon Club Potluck: Want to have some good food and good times with your Oregon friends? Then you better attend the potluck on Thursday, November 5th from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Activity Center Kiva Patio.

Do You Recycle Your Aluminum Cans? Recycling aluminum cans is a project of the Community Assistance Committee (CAC).  Funds derived from this program support the Loan Room, which is available to all residents, free of charge.  There are recycling barrels in all facility buildings along with our main collection area for cans located outside the kitchen at the Activity Center.  As the name implies, we take aluminum cans only.  Do not bring glass, plastic, steel, or tin cans, as they must be removed before we deliver the aluminum to a local scrap yard.  We would appreciate your cans be brought to the main collection bins in paper or plastic bags, and/or small boxes.  Please do not dump the cans loose in the bins.  We have volunteers who daily sort out the material and re-bag them in transfer bags. Loose cans make their job more difficult.  Remember the next time you use supplies from the Loan Room, they are provided by funds from your donated aluminum cans.  Over the last ten years, this program has provided the CAC over $3,600 per year for the benefit of the Loan Room, and other SCOV volunteer groups.  The CAC and Loan Room receive no funds from the Association.

Emerge! Event: Join us for our Accessories Boutique fundraiser to benefit Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse from 1:00 to 3:30 pm. The boutique will feature beautiful, gently used accessories donated by SCOV residents (purses, scarves, jewelry, hats and shoes)-all at bargain prices! The afternoon Accessories Boutique will be open to all Sun City residents. All net proceeds from this sales will go to the Emerge organization. Mark your calendars.....

Ukulele Club event: The Sun City Strummers Ukulele Club is holding a Ukulele Swap & Sell at the Desert Oasis on November 3 from 9-10:30 AM.  This event is open to all SCOV Residents and their invited guests, and is a great opportunity for anyone who'd like to learn the Ukulele to get a quality instrument at a discounted price.

Website tips: Here are a few tips for the new website:
  1. In order to access any topics listed under MEMBERS, you must be a resident of Sun City Oro Valley AND have a website account. Learn how to create an account for the website hereYour user name and password for the former website is no longer valid.
  1. All initial passwords given to new users are computer-assigned temporary passwords. To change this, once you are logged in, hover over your username in the right hand corner and click once on Edit My Profile. Scroll down to where it reads "New Password", Click on Generate New Password, Type in your password of choice.  (Note: If your password is considered "weak", but you don't want to change it, that's ok. Just click on the box that reads "Confirm Use of Weak Password"), Click on Update Profile, Click on the words Sun City Oro Valley located in the top left corner of the page, and this will take you to the website homepage.
  2. User name and passwords are case sensitive. Please make sure to keep a record of your information. Administrators do not have access to your password. If you forget your password, follow the steps provided in the FAQ portion of the website.
  3. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with MEMBER SERVICES located under MEMBERS. There are forms and lots of useful information available there, including the Vendor List and Community Directory.
Street Sealing: Several of the streets in SCOV have been or will be sealed. If you have any issues with the road work, please contact Walter Jackson at the Town. His phone number is 940-1879.

Rancho Vistoso street lights: I have been informed that the cost to repair the street lights was much more than the Town had expected. As a result, the total repair may take about four more years rather than two more years.

Robo calls: Here's some information that was received by one of our resident that you may find helpful. Most SCOV residents are plagued by unwanted phone calls from telemarketing robots. We learned of a free program that has eliminated 95% of these annoying intrusions in our lives. It's called NOMOROBO. Those who want it may sign up on line. It's free and recommended by Consumers Union. It won its creator a $25,000 Federal Trade Commission prize. It definitely works for Comcast landline customers like us but I've read that it doesn't work for Century Link customers. Most robot calls are intercepted and rejected without our even knowing it. But once or twice a day we'll hear our phone ring once and then no more. That signals the interception of a different sort of robot marketing call. Calls from relative and friends come through with no trouble. I'm pretty sure that NOMOROBO is not yet available for cell phone calls.
