Cafe/Lounge Project Presentation: As noted in last week's SCOV report, the Café/Lounge Implementation Team will present the Café/Lounge/Terrace construction and remodel plan to the membership on Wednesday, November 4, 1 PM, Auditorium. Since the Long Range Planning Committee presented a Café/Lounge plan several months ago, you may wonder why have another presentation? Which is a good question. Another presentation is important for a couple of reasons, one is although the basic bones of the plan have remained essentially the same, the details of the project have been considerably refined, and second, due to the significant enhancements to the project details, the cost or investment in the project has changed.

There are too many fine points regarding the plan to delineate in this report which will be presented on November 4, so I won't review any of the details at this time. In regard to the cost or investment in the project, there has been a material increase. As the Implementation Team which actually turned out to be much more of a planning team got into the fine points of the project, it found that the original plan, while an excellent one, didn't divulge many of the hidden costs or very desirable, if not required, remodeling changes. These project details changed the original estimate of $375,300 to a cost/investment of somewhere between $600,000 and $700,000. The reason for the range is that the Team continues to work on value engineering of the project in an effort to reduce costs while continuing to recommend a very desirable plan that will benefit the Community.

A very important point to keep in mind is that regardless of the final cost/investment, all funds for the project are available in the Capital and Asset Reserve Funds. Therefore, if the Board approves this project, there will be no special assessment or any other cost to the Association members to complete this project.

Pickleball Lights: All of the pickleball lights will be replaced with LED lighting which will provide excellent lighting for the courts and result in considerable energy savings. Thanks needs to be extended to the Properties Committee that pursued the TEP rebate that SCOV will receive makes this lighting conversion very affordable.

Monitor positions available: We are in need of two monitors to work at the Desert Oasis, Aquatic and Fitness Center and the Catalina Vista. Work from 8 to 20 hours a week. With the holidays coming it would be nice to turn some free time into cash. Starting pay is $8.05 an hour, minimum wage. Call Pam Sarpalius at 917-8077 to pick up a copy of a job description and for more information.

Facility thermostats: Here's a quick reminder to advise you that the monitors set the thermostats at a recommended level for comfort and energy usage during the different seasons. Now that the weather is cooling off, the thermostats will be adjusted for this time of the year. The important points to remember is that the thermostats must be left alone once adjusted by the monitor and anyone visiting the facilities should dress appropriately for the time of the year. This means that we may have to trade in our shorts and flip flops for long pants and shoes....not required, just suggested for comfort when in the facilities.

Emerge! Event: Join us November 7, Dance Studio, 1-4 PM for our Accessories Boutique fundraiser to benefit Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse. The boutique will feature beautiful, gently-used accessories donated by SCOV residents (purses, scarves, jewelry, hats and shoes) all at bargain prices! The afternoon Accessories Boutique will be open to all Sun
City residents. All net proceeds will go to the Emerge organization. Mark your calendars!

SCOV Vistoso Cyclist's Food Bank Drive:We have one week left to make our donations to the annual SCOV Vistoso Cyclist's ICS Food Bank drive. We are hoping to reach our goal of $25,000 by the end of October. Again, this year, the generous Sun City Vistoso Foundation has provided a gift match grant totaling $7,000. In addition, be aware of the AZ Tax Credit which allows residents to give up to $200 (individual) and up to $400 (couple). This credit allows you to deduct the amount of your donation up to the amount of the AZ tax you owe. Yes, that means you donate today and get your money back in April when you deduct the donated amount from your taxes due. Help feed the needy by joining us and making your check out to "ICS" with "Food Bank" on the Memo line. Send to David Nelson, 1900 E. Somnolent Way, Oro Valley, AZ 85755.

Coyotes and Pets: Those of you who have lived in the desert for years are well aware that coyotes and unattended small pets don't mix well. This goes for Bobcats too. If you're new to the desert, please note that it's important to keep a close eye on your pets anytime they are outside. You may also be interested in knowing that coyotes like to eat pyracantha berries. So, if you want to take measures to keep coyotes at a distance, eliminate pyracantha bushes in your yard.

The Sunrisers Exercise Class has a time change. Starting on November 2 the Monday, Wednesday and Friday class will be from 7-8 AM.

Do you rent your home? Please visit the Member Services section of our website  here to obtain important info about renting your home as well as the forms the administration requires when they need to issue your renters their renter cards.
