Active and Healthy Lifestyle for all: Your SCOV Active Health Committee is pleased to present programs that promote an Active and Healthy Lifestyle for all.  On Friday, October 16th, 1pm, in the Auditorium, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Southern Arizona will provide a program on Preventing Exercise & Sports Injuries. Presenters are: Chiamaka Akaraiwe, PT, MBA (Physical Therapist for 10 years working with military, athletic, and geriatric populations); Pauline Atem, OTR (Occupational Therapist for 2 years in geriatrics); and K. McHaley Haeflinger, PT, C/NDTA (Physical Therapist for 6 years in geriatrics with a neurological emphasis). The presentation will focus on how to maximize the benefit from your exercise; it will include general guidelines, injury prevention and personalizing your program. In addition, the speakers will share information on preventing common injuries acquired in pickleball, golf and tennis as well as how to address the injuries.  Anyone and everyone can benefit from attending this event and if you are involved in any of the sports noted above, it will be especially valuable for you to attend this function. Healthy snacks will be provided.

Wheels for Kids: On Tuesday October 6th on KVOA 5pm news, Wheels for Kids will be featured in a media event with children (and their Wheels for Kids bikes) from Dietz K-8 school in an effort to stimulate raffle ticket sales from the Jim Click Millions for Tucson Ford Mustang Raffle Sale. There are 475 nonprofits participating in this raffle and Wheels for Kids was one of three nonprofit organizations that was asked to do this media event.

Gift Shop: The first Monday Madness of the new season will be Oct 12 from 9 am to 12:30 pm. come and visit us in the courtyard.

The Affordable Care Act: Guest speaker at the Saturday October 10 meeting of the Democrat Club is Dr. Neil West, M.D. whose topic will be: The Affordable Care Act (ACA) 60 months Perspective: Myths and Prediction that did not Occur.  Dr. West will review the basic structure of ACA and the implementation challenges, how reform changes will be funded and success stories and models of care delivery.  The meeting will begin at 1:00 in the Activity Center - Navajo room.  All meetings are always open to everyone regardless of party affiliation!

Swimming Pools: Once again the pools were inspected by the County Health Department and the inspection again resulted in a 100% passing mark. Thanks to our Maintenance team for a job well done.

Scam: It was reported by a resident that a company by the name of UMC left a parcel delivery notice that included a fee. The resident realized this was a scam. The payment of $11.95 needed to be made by phone with a credit card. Of course, once the payment is made there's no delivery of a package.

Library News: Best-selling author Mary Doria Russell will speak and sign copies of her newest release, Epitaph, on Monday, October 19th, at 1 PM in the Auditorium. She has written several other books, including Doc and The Sparrow. Admission is free. No tickets required. First come, first served seating. The room will open one hour before the event. Hope to see you there!

New residents: If you are a newresident who purchased a home after 3/1/15, you are invited to attend our New Resident Meet & Greet Breakfast on Friday, October 16 in the Activity Center at 8 AM for a delicious breakfast, a short presentation by the SCOV staff and ambassadors as well as a free gift.
