Help! Do you have a chemical background? We're evaluating the use of a different type of sanitation system for the swimming pools and need some assistance evaluating this proposed process. If you have a sound background in chemistry, please contact me at bmariani@suncityorovalley.com

Food and Beverage golfer specials, Why? I received a couple of Café comment cards recently that asked why pickleball or tennis players don't get the same specials that golfers get. The basic answer to this question is that these specials are a way to encourage people to play golf which generates revenue for SCOV. There are typically two kinds of specials that golfers get. One type of special is a special offered to golf pass holders. As a perk for purchasing a golf pass, monthly promotions are provided. These promos could be a discounted meal or a wide array of other offerings. Another type of special that is given is typically a discount on a meal when a round of golf is played. For example, if a person plays a round of golf with a fee that is typically $35 or more, they will receive $1 off a hot dog and beer meal. Hopefully this information helps explain why these specials are provided to golfers. Keep in mind that there are many specials that are available to everyone, including pickleball players, tennis players and those who don't partake in any sporting activities.

New swim diaper rule: In last week's SCOV report, the new swim diaper rule was mentioned. As a result of that notice, I was asked to include the complete rule, which is: Incontinent persons and infants who are not toilet trained are required to wear swim diapers with water-resistant covering over the swim diapers plus a swim suit while using the Sun City Oro Valley swimming pools. In the case of a child, an adult (parent, grandparent or guardian) must be in close contact with that child at all times.

In the event of an accident involving the release of fecal matter into a Sun City Oro Valley swimming pool, the responsible Association member will be charged with a cleanup fee of one hundred dollars ($100).

Weathered Brown wrought iron fence painting countdown: Have you painted your fence yet? If not, please keep in mind that there are eight (8) months left until January 1, 2016, when all fences need to be painted Dunn Edwards Weathered Brown. Any brand of paint may be used as long as the color is Dunn Edwards Weathered Brown.

Telephone directory:  The Website Directory has been uploaded.  You can find it in the "Members Only" section of our SCOV website.  I am sorry, but the second email is missing again. (Emails do not get printed in the actual book, in any case)  Please review the directory carefully to be sure that the info is what you want.  The end of July is the deadline for all information to be turned in for the actual book.  I expect that all of the phone numbers in the Resident Listings by Street, blue pages, will be automatically corrected for the October book. The Board invites you: The Board of Directors wants to invite you to each and every Study Session and Board Meeting. Your thoughts and input are important and one of the best ways to be heard is by attending these monthly meetings. In addition to this invitation, the Board would like you to stop by the meetings 15 minutes before the meeting begins so you and the Board Members can have an opportunity for a casual conversation. This pre-meeting period will give you an opportunity to have one-on-one time with Board Members so you can either talk about light social issues or an Association related issue that may be very important to you. The Study Session will be held Thursday, May 14 at 9 a.m. in the Welcome Center, Conference Room 3. Please stop by a little early.

Lounge/Patio Power Point presentations: The PowerPoint presentation explaining the plans for the proposed lounge and patio have been placed on the Members Only section of the SCOV website. Keep in mind when viewing the floor plan and rendering that construction drawing have not yet been completed nor has a Town permit been secured. As a result, it is possible that minor changes may be necessary as details are worked out and as Town permitting may require. However, any necessary changes will not materially change the overall plan or concept.

Bees: I was asked today (5/7/15) why a swarm of bees was not immediately removed from the common area. In answer to the question, here is the message that I included in the April 9 SCOV Report. "If you see a swarm of bees somewhere in the common area, we want to know about it so we can do our best to restrict the area. What may be expected is that we'll immediately have the bees removed. However, bees will often look like they are forming a hive when they are just looking for a new place to form a hive. They will land somewhere for two to four days and leave when the scout bees find the right place for their new hive. So, unless a bee swarm has been in a location for typically more than four days, we won't have the swarm removed. If everyone will simply stay away from the bees and wait a few days, all will work out well." This approach is not a practice that has been put into place without thought. Input from experts in the field was sought so that bee removal would be accomplished as wisely and practically as possible.

Leaving for the summer? Make sure the administration office has your forwarding mailing address. Fill out the form here or go to the Members Only section of our website and click on Change/Update Your Mailing Address link.
