Questions, comments, etc. regarding This Week's SCOV Report: If you have a question, comment or other response that you would like to make regarding an item in this report, you may reply to this message. Depending on the nature of your response (comment, question, etc.), I will acknowledge your reply, answer your questions or take other appropriate action(s) in as timely
a manner as possible.

El Con purchase: As you may know, a suit was filed to allow the referendum to move forward regarding the Town's purchase of the El Conquistador CC. Unfortunately, the judgment was in the favor of the Town which will not allow the citizens to vote on this issue. The parties that brought the suit, Debra Arrett and Shirl Lamonna and I will be meeting with Attorney Risner to discuss options for an appeal.

OREGONIANS..........BEAVERS............DUCKS.....WEBFEET: It's time to join together, have some fun, and see who all hails from our neck of the woods. We need a planning group to help organize THE OREGONIANS. Cathy Hartrich will spearhead it to get it started but needs HELP. Joan and Frank Morris have offered.  Please step up and plan some fun. Email to: webfeet.scov@gmail.com  and be a part of the fun. Also, if you are interested in attending the shindig (probably the end of April) please let us know.

Golf Cart Riders and Walkers safety tips: Last week's note about speeding vehicles brought out two new requests about safety issues. First, I was asked to mention carts speeding in the community. I've noticed this from time-to-time and it's concerned me. So, take it easy and watch out for walkers. Thinking of walkers, another request was to ask people who walk to walk on the sidewalk rather than in the street. Some people walk in the street because they think it is easier on their legs. However, studies have been conducted that reflect that there is no difference in impact on legs between walking asphalt or concrete. So, for your safety, it's suggested that you walk on the sidewalk rather than in the street.

The Board invites you:The Board of Directors wants to invite you to each and every Study Session and Board Meeting. Your thoughts and input are important and one of the best ways to be heard is by attending these monthly meetings. In addition, to this invitation the Board would like you to stop by the meetings 15 minutes before the meetings begin so you and the Board Members can have an opportunity for a casual conversation. This pre-meeting period will give you an opportunity to have one-on-one time with Board Members so you can either talk about light social issues or an Association related issue that may be very important to you. The Study Session will be held on Thursday, February 12th at 9 a.m. in the Welcome Center, Conference Room 3. Please stop by a little early.

American Red Cross Blood Drive: Sun City Oro Valley's next drive is Thursday, February 19, 8-11 AM, Auditorium.  Did you know that a patient could be forced to pass up a lifesaving organ, if compatible blood is not available to support the transplant?  Find the hero in you; donate blood by scheduling an appointment.  Call the Red Cross 1-800-448-3543k or visit redcrossblood.org.

The Sun City Quilters will host their 14th annual quilt show on March 7-8th.  If you are a Sun City resident and you have a quilt that you would like to see displayed during this show, registration of quilts will be held February 9th and 13th in the Activity Center lobby from 9:00 to Noon.  Further information regarding the where and how will be available during registration.  You do not need to be a member of the Quilters but you must be a Sun City resident and have the quilt in your possession.

Communications Sun City Oro Valley: From comments that are received from time-to-time, it's apparent that some residents still think that the blog titled "Communication Sun City Oro Valley" is authored or published by the Association. That is not the case. The blog is the product of one of the SCOV residents. The SCOV Board and/or administration have nothing to do with the blog or its materials. As a matter of information, not a pro or con statement, it has been found that this blog does not always include all the pertinent or correct information when dealing with an issue. For example, there was a recent survey asking if residents would support a trash contract with one firm that would reduce the cost and would apply to all residents. The problem with this type of survey is that all the issues, pro and con, were not included in the survey so that residents could make an educated choice rather than one based solely on cost. The reason that this point is made is to encourage any viewers of this blog to seek and consider all the facts before forming an opinion or making a decision.

Gift Shop Monday Madness: The Gift Shop will have another great Monday Madness on February 9 from 9 AM-12:30 PM. Just a few days before Valentine's Day, you are sure to find something special for someone special. There are always great bargains waiting for you on the tables in front of the shop. Come see what the Gift Shop has to offer this month.

Locker rooms: Regardless of any measures that are taken, there is a chance of slipping when water and tile meet. To help minimize any slippage issues in the locker rooms or any other areas of a similar nature, here's a reminder to dry off before entering the locker rooms from the pool and spa; dry off in the shower area before going to other areas in the locker room; pitch in and mop up puddles when you notice them; if you have a tendency to slip and/or fall, consider wearing slip-resistant footwear; and be careful and aware of your surroundings. Taking part in all or most of these suggestions will greatly help you and your fellow residents who use the locker rooms. In addition, taking these actions and keeping floors dry will greatly help reduce the chance of spreading germs and getting infections.

The Books and Authors' Luncheon, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will be held  on Tuesday, March 10, at Noon in the Auditorium. Tickets will be on sale Tuesday, Feb. 17 and Wednesday, Feb. 18, 9AM - Noon in the Activity Center. Any remaining tickets will be sold on Thursday, Feb. 19, 9AM - Noon in the Library Lobby. Tickets are $25 each. Authors JA Jance and Suzanne Clemenz will be the guest speakers. Contact the Library for further details.

If you rent out your home, it is imperative that you read the following
regarding our procedures to issue renter cards:

  1. Your membership cards are non-transferable and may only be used by you. You may not give your renters your cards.
  2. Before any renter(s) cards are issued, we MUST have your membership cards on file in the office AND your HOA dues must be up to date.
  3. There is a new form that must be completed by you and returned by your renter(s) when they come in to receive their renter's cards. Please find this form here or on the website (www.scovaz.com). Go to Association, Governing Documents and click on Renter/Delegated Form.
  4. The issuance fee for a renter card is $25 for up to two cards and that is good for the length of the lease.
  5. Please be advised the front office will not keep on file any future rental agreements. It is the responsibility of the renter to submit all paperwork upon arrival to SCOV.

Please contact the administration office with any questions - 520-825-3711.

Waste Management recycling: A flyer that Waste Management recently sent to SCOV residents indicated that glass cannot be recycled. This restriction is for Tucson, not Oro Valley. Glass can be recycled in Oro Valley according to the information I have been given.

Club Fair: Don't forget to attend the annual club fair tomorrow, Friday, February 6, 1- 3 PM, Auditorium. If you are new to SCOV this is a great time to learn what the many clubs in SCOV are about. There will be tables around the Auditorium with representatives from clubs, and even some demonstrations. As you walk around you can ask club representatives questions and maybe even sign up to be a club member. This is always a fun event so make time to stop by.
