The Board invites you: The Board of Directors wants to invite you to each and every Study Session and Board Meeting. Your thoughts and input are important and one of the best ways to be heard is by attending these monthly meetings. In addition, to this invitation the Board would like you to stop by the meetings 15 minutes before the meetings begin so you and the Board Members can have an opportunity for a casual conversation. This pre-meeting period will give you an opportunity to have one-on-one time with Board Members so you can either talk about light social issues or an Association related issue that may be very important to you. The Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 9 AM in the Welcome Center, Conference Room 3. Please stop by a little early.

The Active Health Committee is alive and well! This year, the committee will focus:
1) Presentations on Healthy Life-styles

2) Summer Walking Group

3) Support Groups
4) Library Resources

5) and more as the committee evolves.

We are in need of a webmaster, a publicity person, ad hoc committee members, ideas for presentation topics, and names of potential speakers. If you are interested in participating on the Committee, or have suggestions, please email the Chair at: janyce.lundstedt@gmail.com.

Pickleball/Bocce Ball courts: It seems that whatever could go wrong has gone wrong with these projects. As I have reported in previous weekly reports, most of the challenges have been due to the weather, cold and/or rain. The most recent issue with the Bocce Ball courts is that the carpet was installed; however, the dampness in the concrete caused some areas in the carpet to bubble. So, instead of the courts being ready for play, measures are being taken to get rid of the bubbles in the carpet. I'm told this should be resolved within a couple of days and the courts will be open next week.
The pickleball courts were complete; however, the surface did not cure properly on the south end of the courts that get no sun this time of the year. When the courts were played on the surface began to deteriorate. As a result, the courts were closed and are being re-surfaced. It will probably be about two weeks before the courts are ready for play. In addition, the lighting is not working properly and will be repaired within the next few days.

New Café service approach: During the past few weeks, the beverage cart has been stationed at the practice green to provide service for the golfers and take some of the load off of the Café. This approach has not worked as well as anticipated for a few reasons. In order to better serve golfers at the turn and Café patrons in general, the bar will be staffed during the busy lunch time. This position will serve golfers who come in and need fast service; patrons who eat at the bar; answer the phone and take phone orders; and other duties that will be assigned by the Food and Beverage Director. While this approach may not always provide perfect service, I'm confident that is will be an improvement over what has been provided in the past.

Vehicle damage in parking lots: Complaints have been registered recently about damage to vehicles in the SCOV parking lots with no notice left as to who was responsible. Incidents like this occur from time-to-time which is somewhat expected. However, it's completely unacceptable to damage someone's vehicle and not take responsibility by leaving a note with your contract information or attempting to contact the owner of the damaged vehicle. So, please be up front about incidents like this and own up to the damage. Thank you!

Tuesday morning walks on the golf course: Last week I included a notice that the golf course is open for walking on Tuesday morning during this time of the year and in the afternoon during the summer. However, I did not note that golf starts at 11 AM. So, if you are walking on the golf course on Tuesday morning, please keep in mind that it's open for walking only until 11 AM.

Lisa Otey Event: Lisa Otey, who is known in Tucson for her musical talent, has appeared on local TV, radio and had her own show at the "Gaslight Theater." Her piano playing and songs along with her partner Diane Van Deurzen, will entertain you. Many residents have asked to have Lisa appear in SCOV. The show is this Friday. A most enjoyable night will start with the doors opening at 6:30pm and show at 7pm, $15.00 pp. There will be tickets on sale at the door. Please no large bills when paying and please have correct change or checks payable to SCOV. No credit cards. Cabaret seating, bring your own drinks and snacks.

The SCOV Rock and Roll Club is raising funds for YOUTH ON THEIR OWN with a high stakes cash raffle: YOTO is the Tucson based non-profit organization that supports the high school graduation and continued success of abandoned and homeless youth (homeless through no fault of their own) in the Greater Tucson area, by providing financial assistance, basic human needs and guidance.

Raffle tickets are being sold on January 23 and January 26 from 9-11 AM in the Activity Center Lobby and February 6 at the Club Fair. Tickets are $20 each or 6 for $100. Grand Prize is $2500. The winner will be drawn at the Rock 'N Roll Club's annual Member Appreciation/Fundraiser, Sunday, February 15, 2015. Winner need not be present to win cash.

Town purchase of El Conquistador CC: As you are likely aware, over 3,000 signatures were collected for a referendum to bring the purchase of El Conquistador to a vote of the citizens. The petitions were turned in to the Town and rejected on a technicality. This was due to unclear directions given to the volunteer citizens who organized the referendum which resulted in the Council resolution number being placed on the petitions rather than the petition reference number. Once it was determined that the petitions were rejected, another effort was made to collect signatures last Friday. In only four hours over 1,000 signatures were collected which was an amazing effort. Unfortunately, this last minute effort came up 78 signatures short. At this point, some of the volunteers, which includes Debbie Arrett, an SCOV resident are consulting with legal counsel to determine what may be done to legally require acceptance of the petitions which would bring this issue to a vote of the Town's citizens.

Woodworkers Club: Members are reminded the club membership dues for 2015 were due on January 1, 2015. Club dues are now $20 annually. If you haven't paid your 2015 dues yet, please stop by the woodshop and drop your payment in the box provided.
Another series of eight classes on the Safe Operation of Woodworking Machines and Woodworking Techniques will begin in the woodshop on February 9, at 8 AM. Completion of the series will allow a resident to meet the woodshop's safety training requirements that are a prerequisite to operating the machines and joining the Woodworkers Club. You can sign up for the class at the Woodworkers table at the Club Fair on February 6 or at the first class. The instructor is master woodworker and educator Don Jovag. All residents who have an interest in woodworking, experienced or not, are welcome.
