Questions, comments, etc. regarding This Week's SCOV Report: If you have a question, comment or other response that you would like to make regarding an item in this report, you may reply to this message. Depending on the nature of your response (comment, question, etc.), I will acknowledge your reply, answer your questions or take other appropriate action(s) in as timely a manner as possible.

Pickleball/Bocce Ball courts:The contractor has informed me that their crew will be here today to install the carpet and rubber bumpers on the courts, which will complete the project. It will take about three days to perform this work.

Unfortunately the Pickleball Courts that were just opened are now closed due to issues with the surface deteriorating in areas which is creating a potential slip and fall issue. The courts will be closed until repairs can be made.

Vote for The Views as Best in the Northwest: Last year SCOV and The Views Golf Club won the BEST OF THE NORTHWEST award from the NW Explorer newspaper. It's that time again to vote. If you think we are the best, please place your votes here. You will need to select "Retirement Living" and "Sports and Recreation, Best Golf Course".

CORRECTION-Northwest Wine Dinner price: In error the Northwest Wine Dinner at the Café was included in the SCOV report with a price of $16.99. The actual price is $29. We apologize for that error. We understand that some of you who have made reservations may not want to pay $29 for this dinner. If that is the case, please call the Café and cancel your reservations. Again, we apologize for this error.

News from the AFC

  • Training: Ray Jerkins will be giving one hour classes for the Free Motion equipment on Tuesday, January 20th at 7:00 a.m. and for the TRX equipment on Wednesday, January 21st at 8 a.m.
  • Have some thoughts/suggestions: The AFC Committee has placed a suggestion box in the AFC for those of you who have suggestions. In addition to the suggestion box, the committee now has an email address that you can send you suggestion to which is afc@suncityorovalley.com
  • Phones for emergencies: As a reminder, there are two phones that are easily accessible for 911 emergency calls. One is in the fitness center hallway and the other is in the pool area. Please remember to dial 8 first then 911. There are address cards by both phones so if/when you're asked for the address, you can give them the proper location.

Walking on the Golf Course: Did you know that the vast majority of communities with golf courses do not allow non-golfing walkers or carts on their courses. The ability to go out before or after golf hours on The Views Golf Course is a real plus here at SCOV so hopefully you'll take advantage of it as it's your golf course. Also, many residents aren't aware that maintenance takes place during the cooler months on Tuesday morning and golf is not allowed. So, while you have the ability to walk on the course every day, Tuesday mornings are completely open for walkers until summer at which time golf is played in the mornings and maintenance is performed in the afternoons. So, take advantage of this large window of time and enjoy walking through what amounts to a beautiful park with many eye opening sights.

Helpful information, Neighbor's failing water pressure reducing valve can create problems for you: Typically when water meters for two homes are side-by-side in SCOV, the meters are fed by one main line. In a case like this, your neighbor's failed or failing pressure reducing valve may cause hammering (fast jolting action in water pipes) in your household water system that may, in-turn, damage your water pipes. So, if you experience hammering in your water system and have your pressure reducing valve replaced yet still experience hammering in your system, it's suggested that you talk with your neighbor about replacing his/her valve.

Trash Cans: According to the trash companies, their equipment works best if the cans are placed in the street next to the curb. This placement is a win-win as it keeps trash cans off the sidewalks and makes pick up more efficient for the trash companies.

Proposed Paint Colors:If you haven't voted yet please do so. Voting for your favorites at the Activity Center will be coming to a close on January 15th. The information you are providing will be used in preparing the final paint color recommendations that will be presented to the Board for their approval.  The option to cast your vote will still be accessible via the SCOV website under Members Only for a few more weeks.  The Committee thanks you in advance for your participation.

AFC Pool Maintenance/Pool Closure: On the second Tuesday of each month the AFC pool is closed all day, starting at 5am for its monthly cleaning. Early morning swimmers will not be allowed to swim at 5am.

Martin Luther King Day:In observance of the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., the Welcome Center and Library will be closed on Monday, January 19.  All other facilities will have regular hours

Quilter's Project for Veterans: The SCOV Quilters in conjunction with other individuals who in SCOV are making 12 1/2 inch quilt blocks in red, white, and blue. The blocks will be made into quilts to be given to veterans. If anyone needs further information about this project please check www:QOVF.org. Contact Carol Guibert, CarolGuibert1@gmail.com if you have finished blocks as the quilters will supply the batting and backing to complete the quilts. This is a national foundation project with a local coordinator, Jackie Dudek.
