Town's purchase of El Conquistador news: Some of the SCOV residents think that the Town's purchase of the El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Club is a done deal. That is not true. It is true that the purchase was approved by the Town Council on December 17, 2014 by a vote of 4 (Mayor Satish Hiremath, Vice Mayor Lou Waters and Council members: Mary Snider and Joe Hornat in favor) to 3 (Council members: Mike Zinkin, Bill Garner and Brendan Burns opposed).

However, when Oro Valley resident Shirl Lamonna filed the paperwork for a referendum petition at 9 AM on December 18, 2014, the Town had to suspend the purchase

Petitions will be delivered to Town Hall at 4 PM on Thursday, January 15th  (one day earlier than required). Supporters are encouraged to be at the Town Center at that time. The Town Clerk then has up to 20 days to validate the signatures (a 5% random sample). Then the petitions are sent to the County Recorder for further validation and the County has up to 15 days to complete. It is my understanding that a referendum election would be held in May 2015.

If you want to sign a petition for a referendum on the Town of Oro Valley's planned purchase of the El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Club you can do so in the SCOV Activity Center on these dates and times:

Friday, January 9th                          9 AM to 3 PM

Saturday January 10th                     9 AM to 6 PM

Monday, January 12th                      9 AM to 3 PM

Tuesday, January 13th                     9 AM to 6 PM
