Town Council approves purchase of El Conquistador and raises sales tax: As anticipated, the Town Council approved the purchase of the El Conquistador clubhouse and golf courses. The Council also approved a ½ cent sales tax increase. These decisions will result in a government subsidized golf operation that is in direct competition with The Views and other local golf courses. If you want to see what transpired last night, click here.

Pickleball/Bocce Ball: The situation and message from the contractor changes on an almost daily basis. Last week I was informed that the courts would be completed this weekend. Then I was told that they can't complete the projects until after the first of the year. In a phone conversation today, I was told that they would try to complete the courts between Christmas and January 1st. unfortunately I am not able to provide an exact date of completion. I do know that this contractor will be removed from my bid list.

Want to be prepared and know how to help in an emergency event? An excellent way to be in this position is to take an upcoming Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) course. The next course in Oro Valley is coming up soon. It's scheduled to take place at 6 pm to 10 pm on Monday and Tuesday, January 12, 13, 19 and 20th and 8 am to noon on Saturday, January 24, 2015. The classes will be held at the OVPD Tangerine Substation Training Room at 1920 E. Tangerine Road, Oro Valley, AZ 85755. This is located in the Oro Valley Marketplace in the buildings nearest to the Tangerine entrance to the Marketplace. To sign up for this course, contact Cassidy at 229-4964 or csumpter@orovalleyaz.gov by January 6, 2015.

Check out this Holiday sight: The Green Tree Drive neighbors have done a spectacular job of lighting for the holidays. It is worth a drive down the street to see the various displays.

Community Services Coordinator: Effective January 1 the open hours for the Community Services Coordinator, Katy Mosier, is from 9-11 AM. Katy can assist you with architectural review and development standard questions (i.e., house paint, satellite dishes, architectural changes, etc.).

AFC shower benches: Benches that are sturdy and will last in a wet environment have been located and ordered. The benches are supposed to be received in about a week at which time they will be placed in the shower areas in both the men's and women's locker rooms.

Traffic Alerts!  We've received several requests to remind you to be cautious when you are in the cross walk of the cars. There are those who are speeding down Rancho Vistoso Blvd. and not prepared for walkers in the cross walk. Another reminder is for our residents to follow the speed limits within SCOV and to come to a complete stop at all stop signs. We have lots of walkers out there and need to follow the rules of the road for the safety of all.

Update from Copper Health Oro Valley: Season's Greetings from Copper Health Oro Valley! We're putting the final touches on our new health care facility including our new sign which is up and lit now.  In addition, we're scheduling our final architectural review and application for license this month.

We're getting close to opening our new doors for the New Year and are looking forward to offering outstanding health care services in 2015.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

The Team at Copper Health Oro Valley

Lion Fountain: You may have noticed that the water flow is off at times during the evening lately. The reason for that is the leaves that have fallen from the trees in the area of the fountain are filling up the pump basket clogging the pump system at times. Left unattended, this situation can burn up the pump. So, to be cautious, the maintenance staff is turning off the pump at night and continually checking the pump water flow during the day to be sure the pump is not damaged from clogging.

Proposed Paint Colors:

If you haven't cast your vote for your favorite colors yet you now have two ways to do it. If you are here in Sun City the color pallets are on display in the Activity Center and will be until mid-January. Ballots and a ballot box are there for you to record your input about your favorites. If you haven't returned to Sun City yet you can still vote. Photos of the color pallets are now posted on the Sun City Oro Valley website. Sign in to the Members Only section and cast your vote here. If you are voting online remember the colors you are looking at online will not be the true colors as monitors have an impact on the color being displayed. True colors can only be seen in natural daylight. So please keep that in mind when forming your opinion about the colors. What you're looking at is intended to only give you an idea of the color. Your vote matters and will be used in formulating the recommendations that will go forward for final approval.
