Questions, comments, etc. regarding This Week's SCOV Report: If you have a question, comment or other response that you would like to make regarding an item in this report, you may reply to this message. Depending on the nature of your response (comment, question, etc.), I will acknowledge your reply, answer your questions or take other appropriate action(s) in as timely a manner as possible.

Pickleball/Bocce ball Courts: The plans have been reviewed by the Town for a second time. Very few comments were made that must be responded to by the contractor. It's expected that these responses will be submitted to the Town by about October 1st. If the Town accepts these responses, a pre-construction meeting will take place and permits will be issued. I have been informed that the contractor can begin construction within a week of permits being issued.

New Residents:Are you a new resident since March 15? We would like to cordially invite you to our New Resident Meet & Greet Breakfast on Tuesday, October 14 in the Activity Center/Indian Rooms. The festivities will begin 8 AM with a delicious breakfast, and there will be a short informational presentation after. Come meet fellow new residents as well as current residents and SCOV staff who will be happy to answer any of your questions. RSVP if you will be in attendance by Thursday, October 9. To register for this breakfast, Click This. Click on New Resident Meet & Greet Registration form. Any questions email Kat Peabody at kpeabody@suncityorovalley.com  or call 917-8068.

Address update requested:  If you've changed your address with us for summer travels, please make sure it's current. We are preparing for a mailing and want to make sure we are sending your mail to the correct address. Call Norma or Monica in the Administration Office 917-8065.

Ad Hoc LRPC Proposals: As requested by the Board of Directors, the Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) has formed an Ad Hoc Task Team to develop project proposals relating to the Café, Pro Shop and Activities Center. Funds are available to begin phased work on selected projects. The intent of the Café Project is to create additional space for a lounge - an amenity that many residents requested in the 2013 Homeowner and New Resident Surveys. Research has shown that a lounge would have a very positive impact on Café revenues, and recent experience with Happy Hours supports this conclusion. In addition, a lounge would provide additional dining space during peak hours and catering opportunities associated with private parties. In order to create a lounge, the Pro Shop must be relocated; thus the Team elected to begin its work with the Pro Shop Project. The Team will present its proposal to the community on November 8, at 2 PM in the Auditorium. There will be an opportunity for residents to ask questions of the architect and Team members. All comments, questions and suggestions will be considered before the proposal is presented to the Board of Directors. However, it would be very helpful if residents provided input as the proposal is being developed. Read more on the SCOV website, Association, Committees, Long Range Planning Committee, Minutes and Agendas. Then email the Team at proshoptaskteam@suncityorovalley.com.

Do you rent out your home? Please be advised of the following:

  1. Before we can issue any renter(s) cards, we MUST have your membership cards on file AND your HOA dues must be up to date.
  2. There is a new form that must be completed by you and returned by your renter(s) along with a copy of the lease when they come in to receive their renter's cards. Click Here to open the form.
  3. The issuance fee of a renter card is $50 per person and that is good for the length of the lease.

Any questions? Please contact the Administration office at 520-825-3711.

Mesa Flea Market:  Tickets are on sale at the Welcome Center for the October 10 bus trip to the Mesa Flea Market, $18pp, see Coco or Pam. Enjoy riding the bus to shop with hundreds of booths of new merchandise. The market is under cover with a surprise around every corner. Wear your walking shoes and lunch can be purchased there. Mesa Flea Market is well known for the quality of merchandise you can buy and a very clean facility. Remember if you purchase something big it will fit on the bus to take home.

Disasters can occur anywhere: Think we can't have a disaster, either natural or man-made, think again. Consider the recent threat of a huge storm that potentially could have created major issues for any and all of us. The last thing that any of us should think is that Sun City Oro Valley is immune from a disaster such as flood, fire, earth quake or a cyber-attack that could leave us without water, phones or electricity. We can't control these possible disasters but can be prepared. An easy first step in being prepared for a disaster is to go to the www.ready.govfor a world of emergency preparedness information and specifically Click Here for an excellent basic kit that will help you get through an emergency situation. It only takes a few minutes to make the difference between possible life and the alternative.

American Red Cross Blood Drive: A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood. You can help replenish the supply by donating at Sun City Oro Valley's drive Thursday, October 16, 8-11 AM, Auditorium. The entire process takes about one hour; the actual donation of a pint of whole blood takes eight to ten minutes. Schedule an appointment by calling the Red Cross 1-800-448-3543 or by visiting redcrossblood.org.

Fence painting: Here's a quick reminder that all fences on residential lots in SCOV are to be painted with Dunn Edwards Weathered Brown by January 1, 2016. This stipulation was established about eight years ago in the Development Standards in an effort to standardize fence colors and with the anticipation that most if not all fences would need to be painted within an eight year period. Therefore, no additional cost would be borne by homeowners to change fence color to weathered brown in most and hopefully in all cases.

Seeking volunteers to review house paint colors: Every 5 years a sub-committee of the ARC is formed to review the colors that are used on the exterior of our homes. It's that time again. We are looking to put a team in place to review the existing colors and recommend new colors. The team will be made up of five people from our community and a representative from Dunn Edwards. Recommendations for approval of the new pallet will be presentedto the Board for approval in early 2015. So if you are interested in being part of the team and have experience as an architect, artist, designer, painter or building contractor please send your name, contact informationand reason you would like to be a member of the sub-committee to Katy Mosier at kmosier@suncityorovalley.com.
