Clubs, the Café is ready to cater your events:Now that Vince Hotz has his feet on the ground and the food & beverage operation has a positive mission to serve house made food with excellent presentation and service, he and his team are ready to provide superior catering for your club functions. The Café team has proven itself on a number of occasions which includes
a recent very successful catering event for over 120 American Legion golfers. If you're currently using the Café for your catering, we thank you for your business and will do everything in our power to continue providing you with excellent service and food. If you're not using the Café for your events, please give Vince and his team an opportunity to show you how accommodating, flexible and professional the Café catering team will be in satisfying your every need.

Mexican Buffet:It's a rare occasion when the Café offers a Mexican buffet so don't miss this delicious dinner. There will be a wide variety of your favorite Mexican dishes to please everyone's palate. The dinner is tomorrow, Friday September 5th from 4 to 7 p.m. Dinner is only $10.99 and drinks will be offered at $1 off the regular price. The prickly pear margarita will be featured at $5.

Happy Hour:Will be on Wednesday, September 10th from 4 to 7 p.m. The featured drink will be a Swedish Mule cocktail (potato vodka, ginger beer and lime juice) for $5.

New breakfast sandwich:The votes are in, and the winning name of the new breakfast sandwich is THE SUNRISER! Congratulations to Jeff Puskas for coming up with the winning name!

File of Life and Golder Ranch Lockbox:The Posse will be placing these items in the facilities near the Tipsters. The following is a description of the items and how they may help save your life. The File of Life is a pouch that is placed on your refrigerator with medical and other information you provide in it. In case of a medical emergency, the responders will access this information for use in assisting you with the medical emergency. The lockbox is a box that is installed outside your home and has your house key in it. In case of a medical emergency, the responders and only the responders can access the lockbox and unlock your door to access your home rather than breaking in to respond as they so often have to do. You can get more information about both of these items by calling the Fire Department at 818-1017 or while they last, the File of Life and information about the lockbox are available in the front office of the Welcome Center.

Longer hours for driving range:Effective immediately the driving range will be open until approximately one hour before sunset except for Thursday when the range will close at 3 PM for a clean ball pick.

Dispose-A-Med   Empty your medicine cabinet and bring your unused or expired prescriptions, over the counter medications, vitamins/supplements to the Sun City Activity Center and dispose of them properly. The Oro Valley Police and the Sun City Vistoso Community Foundation will be there to accept the above items.

When: 2nd Tuesday, every other month 9-11am

     Schedule 2014 - 9/9, 11/11, 2015 - 1/13, 3/10, 5/12, 7/14, 9/8, 11/10

   Where: Sun City Activity Center

There are important changes in the Dispose-A-Med program procedures. The Foundation has not been involved in making these changes. The new regulations are a result of DEA changes which are to be followed by the Oro Valley Police, and as a result, the Foundation. Here are the new regulations:

  1. The Oro Valley Police and Foundation personnel in attendance are no longer allowed to handle the items brought in for disposal. The person with the medications will need to separate the pill type items and the liquid or jell type items themselves and will then be shown which Oro Valley Police containers are to be used for the deposit. The items do not need to be opened; they can be deposited in the original bottle/container in which they are packaged.
  2. We no longer can accept syringes, inhalers and things like elastic or other bandages, and other non-medication items.
  3. Only prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins/supplements, etc. items can be accepted.

NOTE: we are now accepting empty PRESCRIPTION medicine bottles again.

 Projects Update:

Catalina Vista restrooms: The renovation started and is scheduled for completion by September 19th. Catalina Vista will be re-opened on September 20th.

AFC outside restrooms: Renovation of these restrooms is underway. They are complete with the exception of installing the countertop, which will arrive late this week or early next week.

Pickleball/Bocce Courts: With the exception of a landscape plan that the Town requires, all of the issues that the Town has with the plans that were submitted have been re-submitted to the Town. I expect the landscape plans will be submitted next week.

Pool Decks:One project I haven't mentioned much if at all is the repair and surfacing (essentially painting) of the pool decks. Bids are being gathered for this project. As soon as possible after bids have been secured, the pools will be closed (preferably one at a time) for a week or two so that the decks can be re-finished. During that time, the AFC pool will be drained. The pools are drained every few years due to the fact that solids build up and the chemicals become unbalanced making it more difficult to maintain the pools properly.
