Questions, comments, etc. regarding This Week's SCOV Report: If you have a question, comment or other response that you would like to make regarding an item in this report, you may reply to this message. Depending on the nature of your response (comment, question, etc.), I will acknowledge your reply, answer your questions or take other appropriate action(s) in as timely a manner as possible.

Project Update:

Catalina Vista restrooms: The renovation started and is scheduled for completion by Sept. 19th.

AFC outside restrooms: Renovation of these restrooms is underway. They are complete with the exception of installing the countertop, which will arrive next week and the dispensers which are being installed this week.

Pickleball/Bocce Courts: No change from last week. The plans are under review by the Town. The initial review is complete; however, as usual there were some comments from Town staff that need to be responded to by the contractor. This means that the plans must be re-submitted once additional information is provided by the contractor. I was informed that these comments are all minor issues so they should not result in a significant delay.

Pool Decks: One project I haven't mentioned much of at all is the repair and surfacing (essentially painting) of the pool decks. Bids are being gathered for this project. As soon as possible after bids have been secured, the pools will be closed (preferably one at a time) for a week or two so that the decks can be re-finished. During that time, the AFC pool will be drained. The pools are drained every few years due to the fact that solids build up and the chemicals become unbalanced making it more difficult to maintain the pools properly.

Golf course ponds and new tee boxes: New elevated tee boxes are being built or will be built on five holes. These tee boxes, which are being built by our golf course maintenance staff, will provide additional alternatives to further accommodate all levels of golfers. This is just one more effort being made to attract as many golfers and as much revenue as possible.

Irrigation pond issues:Little by little debris has built up in the ponds used for irrigating the golf course. This debris has caused issues with the irrigation heads clogging plus various turf and bunker issues. After attempting to get three or four companies to help resolve this debris problem without success, an excellent diving and repair firm was located and completed preliminary debris removal to help mitigate the debris issue. Due to the situation that there was not sufficient time to complete a more thorough job prior to over seeding, the firm moved some of the debris away from the irrigation intake as a temporary measure. The plan is to have the diving/repair company develop a proposal and plan for further debris removal in May or June of 2015. The work that has been and will be done was anticipated and budgeted. Eventually the ponds will have to be dredged which will be a major project and one that will require long-term asset reserve budgeting.

Clubs, the Café is ready to cater your events: Now that Vince Hotz has his feet on the ground and the food & beverage operation has a positive mission to serve house made food with excellent presentation and service, he and his team are ready to provide superior catering for your club functions. The Café team has proven itself on a number of occasions which includes a recent very successful catering event for over 120 American Legion golfers. If you're currently using the Café for your catering, we thank you for your business and will do everything in our power to continue providing you with excellent service and food. If you're not using the Café for your events, please give Vince and his team an opportunity to show you how accommodating, flexible and professional the Café catering team will be in satisfying your every need.

Military Memorial Service with Three Gun Salute: On Saturday September 6th the American Legion will have a memorial service for a World War II veteran. The memorial service will include a three gun salute. Three members of the American Legion will fire three rifles three times as a salute and part of the memorial service. Of course, the shots will be with blank rounds. This three gun salute will take place at about 10:30 a.m. If you are in the area or hear the shots, please don't be alarmed. It should also be noted that the Oro Valley Police Department has been notified of this function by the American Legion.

Stack chairs for sale: New stacking chairs are on their way so the current chairs are for sale for $5 each. If you are interested, please contact Pam Sarpalius at 917-8077 or psarpalius@suncityorovalley.com

Fraud by text: Beware. There is a fraud scam going around by text message. The message is from a "bank" and they are asking you to call this number. They tell you there is an issue with your credit card and that the information should be verified. They then ask you to provide your credit card information.

Labor Day Facility Hours: AFC 5am to 9pm and Desert Oasis 9am to 4pm.  All other facilities will be closed.

BOARD CANDIDATE NOMINATIONS SOUGHT: Nominations are being sought for the SCOV Board of Directors. If you are interested in serving on the Board or have someone you would like to nominate, please complete the nomination form available HERE
