Telephone Directory:
Last Chance to review your listing in the SCOV online directory.  Most of what is there will be in the actual book except for email addresses and other specific things you have requested not be included.  Also the list of new residents and any corrections are in the AUG file.  I only have new resident's information if I have received a set up sheet/form from them. Call Carolyn Lerch at 818-3319 or email (preferably) at

Projects Update:

Restrooms: The Artisan Center, Posse Shack and Tennis restroom renovations will be completed next week (week of August 11th).
Catalina Vista restrooms: So that the renovations of these restrooms does not interfere with the election polling that will take place on September 26th, these projects will begin on September 27th and are scheduled for completion by October 19th.
AFC outside restrooms: Renovation of these restrooms is planned to begin the week of August 11th or at the latest the week of August 18th.
Pickleball/Bocce Courts: The plans are under review by the Town. If all goes well, the review will be complete by mid-August. If this occurs, construction should get underway by the first week in September.
Wash projects: The work in unit 7 is progressing well and should be completed in a few days.

Pro Shop Task Team: The Team continues to discuss plans for the proposed new Pro Shop. At the most recent Task Team meeting, the architect presented a revised floor plan that was reduced by 152 square feet. This proposed floor plan will have less merchandise area, which is desirable but ample storage area which is much needed. The current plan is to seek membership input on an ongoing basis and present the proposed project to the membership on November 8th. More information will be forthcoming in the Tipster, bulletin boards and this report over the next few months.

New Intermediate Golf School: The Views is offering an intermediate golf school starting May 10, and just a few spaces are left. Don't miss out! Only $120 for six one-hour lessons (a bargain at $20/ea.). Dates are August 30, September 1, 6, 7, 13 and 14 from 8:30-9:30 AM. Sign up online HERE

Happy Hour: Don't forget about happy hour at the Café on Friday, August 8 from 4 - 7, and then mark your calendar for the Taco Bar Happy Hour on Thursday, August 14 from 4 - 7.

Strategic Projects Committee (SPC) Report: The SPC report that includes recommendation for the Café, golf course, pro shop, Activity Center and more is available on the SCOV web site and in the library. This is a very important report that the Board has taken some action on and will discuss further it at the September Board Meeting.

Delinquent SCOV Dues: Members who have not paid their dues will have their ID cards removed from the system on August 11th and will no long be able to access the AFC until their dues are paid.

That Bright Yellow Bag: Is your neighbor away? If there is a bright yellow bag on the sidewalk leading to their front door, why not be a good neighbor and pick it up for them? If you know them, keep it until they return; if not, put it up by the door in a place not so noticeable. The bright yellow color of the bag, along with newspapers strewn about, sure makes that home look vacant and an open invitation for a possible crime. Let's look out for each other and continue to help make SCOV a safe place to live.

From the Government Affairs Committee:

  • Early ballots (mail-in) for the Primary Election will begin to be mailed to voters on Thursday, July 31st.
  • Early ballots must be requested before August 14th and received back by the County Recorder's Office by August 26th (Election Day).
  • Registered Independent or PND (party not declared) voters will not receive a ballot unless one is requested.
  • Registered Independent or PND voters can request a Democratic, Republican or Libertarian Primary Ballot or a ballot for just the nonpartisan Oro Valley Election.
  • Election of nonpartisan candidates for Oro Valley Mayor and three Councilmember seats will be on the Primary Election Ballot along with the Home Rule Option.
  • Request an Early Ballot or have it sent to your summer address by calling (520)724-4330 or visiting www.recorder.pima.gov.

The Post Office will not forward a ballot.

Pat Straney & RVB Landscape clarification: Mr. Straney who is running for the Town of Oro Valley Major's position spoke at a recent forum in the SCOV auditorium. During the forum he had indicated that he worked with SCOV on the Rancho Vistoso Blvd. landscaping. Apparently some attendees thought that Mr. Straney was very involved in our project. As a result of this misunderstanding Mr. Straney called me to explain that he had shared the Rancho Vistoso Community Association median landscape plans with a few of our committee members three or four years ago due to the interest our Association had in re-landscaping the median in SCOV. However, he didn't actually participate in the median landscaping that took place within SCOV recently.

Monsoon Madness: continues at the Library, where all books, audiobooks, movies and music CDs are "buy three get one free!" New items put out almost daily. Proceeds will be used to purchase new books and movies.

ORO VALLEY VOTERS: Pima County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez would like to remind Oro Valley voters that elections for Mayor and Council will not be conducted as an all-by-mail election, so they will not automatically receive a ballot for the upcoming Primary election. The Arizona State Legislature has created laws to consolidate elections, so this election is now being conducted along with the Primary and General Elections.

For those voters who are on the Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL) ballots were mailed on Thursday, July 31, 2014 and should be in your mailbox soon. Independent voters or those voters not on the PEVL can request a full ballot of Primary candidates for any ONE of the political parties or they can request a ballot for only the Town of Oro Valley. Selecting a political party ballot will NOT change your Voter Registration to the political party ballot you requested. You will remain a Party Not Designated (PND) or Independent registered voter.

The easiest way to order a ballot is to call our office and speak directly to a staff member at (520) 740-4330. You simply need to let the operator know which political party ballot you would like to receive. To order your vote-by-mail ballot online, go to the Pima County Recorder's web site at www.recorder.pima.gov and click on the link for "Early Ballot Request." The link has a place for you to designate which political party ballot you would like to receive.

For more information or to see a list of early voting sites in Pima County, visit the Recorder's web site at www.recorder.pima.gov.
