Recycling Ink Cartridges: Don't throw away your used ink cartridges. Put them to good use by depositing them in a basket in the Welcome Center outside the Computer Learning Center. The Vistoso Computer Club delivers them to Coronado K-8 school's PTO (Parent Teachers Organization). The PTO recycles the cartridges to fund a multitude of projects. Among a few, it supports the student council activities, provides awards for the school's avid readers, holds family fun nights where parents and students can enjoy movies and games, and grants a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior who was formerly a Coronado student. Your used ink cartridge donations are appreciated.

Street surfacing: The following is a message that I received from the Town: I am writing to inform you that Town of Oro Valley will be placing surface treatments in Sun City Unit 1. The work is estimated to take place during September and October 2014. Crews will be on site from 7:30 AM till 3:00 PM Monday thru Friday. Further information will be given to by the contractor after the contract has been awarded. Mark Navarro, Civil Engineering Designer Development and Infrastructure Services Department.

Rancho Vistoso Street Lighting:Here's the latest information from the Town on the issues with the street lights on Rancho Vistoso Blvd. The lights are set up on three circuits. The approximate locations of the circuits are:
#1 - Greenspun Blvd to just east of Silverton Ave
#2 - east of Silverton Ave to 1000ft +/- south of Crossbow Dr.
#3 - south of Crossbow Dr. to Big Wash Bridge

In the past year, circuit #1 and circuit #3 have had extensive troubleshooting / repair, and circuit #3 received a new transformer. Circuit #2 has also had extensive troubleshooting and repair, but continues to present electrical issues. This circuit appears to be laden with faulty wiring and damaged conduit, making it sensitive to water, rodents and even ants. Due to the continual issues with circuit #2, the Town determined it necessary to replace the conduit and wiring throughout the circuit.

The project to replace the conduit, wiring and pull boxes on circuit #2 was recently funded in the Fiscal Year 2014/2015 Budget. The contract documents are currently being prepared, and once complete the project will be advertised for bids. A contractor is expected to be awarded within three months of advertisement and construction is anticipated to last for approximately four months.

The Town has diligently worked to diagnose the root problems in this nearly 30 year old system, and resolve issues in the most efficient manner. Replacement of the conduit system and wiring is an extensive project, and construction will be impacted by existing utilities and mature landscaping on both sides of Rancho Vistoso Blvd.

Project Update:

Restrooms and Gift Shop: The Artisan Center, Posse Shack and Tennis restrooms plus the Gift Shop are all closed and being refreshed at this time. Next month the exterior AFC and Catalina Vista restrooms will be refreshed.

Pickleball/Bocce Courts: The plans have been submitted to the Town and are under review. As a reminder to anyone who is concerned, all of the pickleball and bocceball courts will be constructed at the same time due to time constraints. Constructing them separately would result in a large pickleball project in process during a very busy time in that area which would not only be an inconvenience but would also be a significant safety issue.

Wash projects: Work is complete in Unit-18 which is near Hole-10 and the contractor is now working on the wash area in Unit 7 which is near Hole-11.

Wifi at the Artisan Center: Wifi installation is complete and should be ready for use.

Miscellaneous: As noted last week, there are a number of other projects on the projects list for this summer including but not limited to repairs and resurfacing of the pool decks, painting the Silversmith and Lapidary Rooms, one movable wall replacement at Catalina Vista, altering the pond irrigation inlet to reduce debris allowing into the irrigation system, exterior lighting replacement and more. Although these and other projects are on the list for completion this summer, it is possible that some projects won't be completed until after summer.

Proposed Pro Shop: A Task Team appointed by the Board is working on plans for a proposed new pro shop. If and when this pro shop is constructed, the current pro shop will serve as a gathering place/lounge for residents and guests. Prior to implementation of this project, a proposal will be submitted to the Board; then a presentation will be made to the membership explaining the project; once those steps are accomplished the project will go back to the Board for consideration and approval. If the project is approved, it is proposed for next summer with funds, which are available, coming from the Capital Fund.
