Want to learn and have some fun with Audio-Visual equipment: This could be your new hobby. There's often a need to assistance with setting up and operating the Activity Center audio visual systems. If you have some AV knowledge or just an interest in learning and spending a little of your time helping with the AV systems for some of the SCOV events, we'd truly appreciate any volunteer hours you'd like to dedicate to the Association. If you'd like to help out, please email Robin Coulter at rcoulter@suncityorovalley.com

JA Jance, author of over 20 best-selling books, will be here on August 6th at 1 PM in the Auditorium to speak about her latest book, Remains of Innocence. Following her talk, the author will answer questions and sign books. There is no charge for this event, however to help plan for attendance you will need to obtain a ticket, available in the Library.

Political Signs:You may already be aware that State law allows signs to be posted along the streets and on residential properties in Arizona but just to be sure you know how/why all the signs out there are allowed, here's a little information... The State Statutes include various restrictions such as size and timeframe of posting yet in general the signs that you see by the roads in the right-of-way can be posted without permission from the Town and/or the Association. Political signs may also be posted on residential property without permission from the Association. The basic parameters for these signs are that they cannot be posted more than 71 days before an election or more than three days after an election plus the total area of all signs on a lot may not be more than nine square feet. Specifics on signs in the right-of-way can be found in Arizona State Statute (ARS) 16-1019 and on residential property in homeowners associations in ARS 33-1808.

Café news, Dinner: BIG WINES & SMALL PLATES: Friday, July 18th, 4:30 - 7:30 PM $25 per person Spain has a wealth of delicious wines at a great value. We will be pouring four outstanding Iberian (region in Spain) wines and pairing them with regional Tapas (Spanish finger food). There will be an opportunity to purchase wine by the bottle for your enjoyment at home. Please don't forget to call to make your reservation at 825-3277.

Café news, condiments: It's a little thing but we're listening. After receiving comments and complaints about expensive hot dog condiment add-ons, the policy has been changed. There is no charge for condiments such as onions, relish or other condiments on hot dogs. There will still be a charge for add-ons such as chili and/or cheese.

Café news, Happy Hour: Here's a change of pace....the next Café Happy Hour will be on Wednesday, July 23rd from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. As usual there will be a wide variety of appetizers and drinks at great prices. Stop by for a bite, drink and fun with your neighbors.

Café news, health department: The most recent visit by the County health department resulted in an Excellent rating from the inspector. This means that there were no issues identified by the inspector which is a sign that the Café cleanliness, food preparation and food storage have progressed from an at least acceptable level to the highest level.

Poisonous Frogs: Please be aware that during the monsoon season, the Sonoran Frog (formally known as the Colorado River Frog) comes out of hibernation. These frogs are large and are very poisonous. So, please make every effort to keep your pets away from these frogs as even a brief encounter can be fatal to your pet.

Projects Update:

Restrooms and Gift Shop: The Artisan Center, Posse Shack and Tennis restrooms plus the Gift Shop are all closed and being refreshed at this time. Next month the exterior AFC and Catalina Vista restrooms will be refreshed.

Pickleball/Bocce Courts: The contractor has advised that the plans will be submitted to the Town this week. As a reminder to anyone who is concerned, all of the pickleball and bocce courts will be constructed at the same time due to time constraints. Constructing them separately would result in a large pickleball project in process during a very busy time in that area. This would not only be an inconvenience but would also be a significant safety issue.

Wash projects: Work is ongoing in Unit-18 which is near Hole-10. The heavy rains lately have created some challenges but the work still continues to progress. Once the project in this area is complete which should be this week, the contractor will move on to Unit 7 which is near Hole-11 to complete needed work in that area.

Wifi At The Artisan Center: Wifi is being installed in the Artisan Center at this time and the project is expected to be completed within a few days. This project will provide internet access to everyone using the Artisan Center facilities.

Miscellaneous: There are a number of other projects on the projects list for this summer including but not limited to repairs and resurfacing of the pool decks, painting the Silversmith and Lapidary Rooms, one movable wall replacement at Catalina Vista, altering the pond irrigation inlet to reduce debris falling into the irrigation system, exterior lighting replacement and more. Although these and other projects are on the list for completion this summer, it is possible that some projects won't be completed until after summer.

Proposed Pro Shop: A Task Team appointed by the Board is working on plans for a proposed new Pro Shop. If and when this Pro Shop is constructed, the current Pro Shop will serve as a gathering place/lounge for residents and guests. Prior to implementation of this project, a proposal will be submitted to the Board; then a presentation will be made to the membership explaining the project; once those steps are accomplished the project will go back to the Board for consideration and approval. If the project is approved, it is proposed for next summer with funds, which are available, coming from the Capital Fund.
