Golder Ranch File of Life and Lockbox: It's been a few months since I last sent out any information on the File of Life or lockbox that Golder Ranch offers so here's a reminder. The File of Life is a pouch that is placed on your refrigerator with medical and other information you provide in it. In case of a medical emergency, the responders will access this information for use in assisting you with the medical emergency. The lockbox is a box that is installed outside your home and has your house key in it. In case of a medical emergency, the responders and only the responders can access the lockbox and unlock your door to access your home rather than breaking in to respond as they so often have to do. You can get more information about both of these items by calling the Fire Department at 818-1017 or while they last, the File of Life and information about the lockbox are available in the front office of the Welcome Center.
Minor update from the Town regarding the loose chip issues in Sun City: The contractor has informed the Town that Sunrise Exteriors will sweep Sun City Units 8, 9 and 10 on Tuesday, July 8th beginning at 7:00 a.m., weather permitting. They will continue to monitor the subdivision for further chip loss until the Town meets with them again to address the issue in the fall once temperatures cool down and we have had appropriate time to evaluate the pavement conditions.
Gift Shop to be closed for Renovation: We are planning to begin our renovation on July 14th. In preparation the shop will be closed on July 10th. The construction is anticipated to take 2 weeks. Therefore, after restocking, we will be opening the shop again on August 4th if everything goes as planned. Thank you, Julie and Elaine, Gift Shop Co-Chairs.
Youth On Their Own: Support the Rock and Roll Club in their effort to collect new school supplies and personal care items for Youth On Their Own, a local non-profit that supports the high school graduation of Tucson area students who are homeless through no fault of their own. Collection will be in the Activity Center on July 11 and July 14 from 9-11 AM in the AC lobby.
Monsoon season is here: Please remember when lightning and thunder are in the area, the pools and spa will be closed immediately. A half hour after the storm the pools and spa will reopen.
Dispose-A-Med Empty your medicine cabinet and bring your unused or expired prescriptions, over the counter medications, vitamins/supplements to the Sun City Activity Center and dispose of them properly. The Oro Valley Police and the Sun City Vistoso Community Foundation will be there to accept the above items.
When: 2nd Tuesday, every other month 9-11 AM
Schedule 2014 - 7/8, 9/9, 11/11 2015 - 1/13, 3/10, 5/12, 7/14, 9/8, 11/10
Where: SCOV Activity Center
There are important changes in the Dispose-A-Med program procedures. The Foundation has not been involved in making these changes. The new regulations are a result of DEA changes which are to be followed by the Oro Valley Police, and as a result, the Foundation. Here are the new regulations:
- The Oro Valley Police and Foundation personnel in attendance are no longer allowed to handle the items brought in for disposal. The person with the medications will need to separate the pill type items and the liquid or jell type items themselves and will then be shown which Oro Valley Police containers are to be used for the deposit. The items do not need to be opened; they can be deposited in the original bottle/container in which they are packaged.
- We no longer can accept syringes, inhalers and things like elastic or other bandages, and other non-medication items.
- Only prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins/supplements, etc. items can be accepted.
NOTE: we are now accepting empty PRESCRIPTION medicine bottles again.

Projects, brief updates:
- Activity Center: The work in the Native American Rooms and Auditorium is complete (there may be a couple of finishing touches) and the facility is open for your enjoyment.
- Reminder...Restrooms: During the next couple of months, several of the restrooms in the various facilities will be refreshed with new tile, stall enclosures, etc. As these restrooms are worked on, notice will be given.
- Pickleball/Bocceball:The most recent information I have from the contractor is that the plans will be submitted to the Town the week of July 15th which is a week later than previously communicated to me. The reason for the delay of a few days is the Town is requiring that the improvements are plotted on the development plans, which apparently takes additional time to complete.
- Chalk Creek Wash: Work start on the wash this week. The preliminary word from the contractor is that the job should take a couple of weeks to complete. Of course, this is subject to the weather.
- Mountain Vista parking lot: The parking lot re-construction is complete and the lot is open for use.
