 Projects, brief updates:

  • Reminder...Activity Center: Electrical floor boxes and carpet will be installed in the Native American Rooms and audio video work will be done in the Auditorium. As a result of these projects, the Activity Center will be closed from June 16th through June 30th. The lobby tile will not be replaced at this time nor will the restrooms be re-tiled. These projects will be referred to an ad hoc committee that will work with a commercial designer to determine what improvements will be made to the facility.
  • Reminder...Restrooms: During the next couple of months, several of the restrooms in the various facilities will be refreshed with new tile, stall enclosures, etc. Notice will be given prior to restrooms work.
  • Pickleball/Bocceball:Plans are progressing but more slowly than desired. No final decision has been made yet, however, it may be necessary to construct all the bocce and pickleball courts at one time. Unless the contractor is able to start the concrete work on the bocceball courts within the next three or four weeks at the outside, which is looking doubtful, construction of the pickleball courts, may extend out toward the end of the calendar year if the bocceball courts are constructed prior to the pickleball courts. This scenario could be very problematic as there is a high level of activity in the pickleball/Café/tennis court/golf area beginning in October that will conflict with the construction. As I receive updates regarding the permit approval and contract work schedules, I will pass this information on.
  • Chalk Creek Wash: The Town has approved the permit to perform the necessary erosion control projects in Chalk Creek wash and the contractor has been selected. The preliminary word from the contractor is that work is planned to commence on Tuesday, July 1st.

Pets: We understand that pets are a big part of the lives of people who live at SCOV, and their company is greatly cherished. However, per the SCOV Homeowner's Handbook, pets are not allowed in any SCOV facility or amenity, including the golf course, except those qualifying under Federal ADA regulations. Pets may be permitted on other Common Areas so long as they are on a leash and under the control of a responsible person or in an enclosed area approved as a Pet Park (subject to the rules of the Pet Park). Pet owners are responsible for removing and properly disposing of solid waste created by their pets on private and public property, including Common Areas. Pets are further governed by regulations adopted by the Town of Oro Valley and Pima County. Thank you in advance for your compliance to this rule.

Youth On Their Own: Support the Rock and Roll Club in their effort to collect new school supplies and personal care items for Youth On Their Own, a local non-profit that supports the high school graduation of Tucson area students who are homeless through no fault of their own. Collection will be in the Activity Center on July 11 and July 14 from 9-11 AM in the Activity Center lobby.

Aluminum can recycling: While the Activity Center parking lot is undergoing reconstruction through the end of June, we ask residents donating their aluminum cans in the collection bin behind the kitchen area, to please hold them at their residence until the parking lot reopens. The Community Assistance Committee (CAC) thanks all who support our Loan Room with their donation of aluminum cans. For this fiscal year, over 4,000 pounds of material was delivered, and nearly $2,500.00 was received to finance CAC activities. Thank you for your cooperation with this project.

The Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD) is excited to announce its June Coffee with a Cop event: It will be on Monday June 30, 2014 at the Saguaro Café located at 12142 N Rancho Vistoso Blvd. Suite 120 (near the Safeway) from 8 AM to 10AM. Coffee with a cop is a national initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. The goal of this program is to break down barriers between the public and police officers. The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public is during emergencies, traffic stops, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective time for relationship building with the community. Coffee with a cop allows for a relaxed one-on-one interaction between the community and your local police officer.
