Questions, comments, etc. regarding This Week's SCOV Report:If you have a question, comment or other response that you like to make regarding an item in this report, you may reply to this message. Depending on the nature of your response (comment, question, etc.), I will acknowledge your reply, answer your questions or take other appropriate action(s) in as timely a manner as possible

Youth On Their Own: Support the Rock and Roll Club in their effort to collect new school supplies and personal care items for Youth On Their Own, a local non-profit that supports the high school graduation of Tucson area students who are homeless through no fault of their own. Collection
will be in the Activity Center on July 11 and July 14 from 9-11 AM in the AC lobby.

Dog Waste: Here's another friendly reminder to pick up after your dogs. In addition, please respect your neighbor's property and whenever possible, do not allow your dog to use a neighbor's property as a potty room even if you're picking up your dog's waste.

Annual golf passes: If you do not presently have an annual golf pass and are thinking about purchasing one, now is the time. If purchased now, there is a $100 discount on the 18-Hole Annual Pass and with any annual pass, you can begin playing immediately. So, if you purchase today, you get almost three weeks of free golf.

Beat the heat by staying inside with a new book, audiobook, movie or music CD from the Library's Super Summer Survival Sale. But hurry in, the sale ends when the Monsoon rains begin. Great selection and our prices are all wet!

Street treatment update: The street treatments in Sun City Oro Valley Units 8, 9, and 10 were performed by the contractor Sunland Asphalt. Due to the pavement rock chips not binding and resulting in loose chips on the roadway, the Town is working with the contractor to determine a solution to this issue. As a result, a different treatment is being performed on Greenspun Pl. in an attempt to resolve the issue, which began yesterday and will be completed today. The contractor expects to see the effectiveness of this treatment by early next week. Should this treatment resolve the loose chip issue, the contractor will then apply this treatment to the other subdivisions currently experiencing the same issue.

Projects, brief updates:

  • Mountain Vista parking lot: The parking lot will be re-constructed during the period of June 23rd through July 2nd. There will be no access in or out of the lot during that time.
  • Activity Center: Electrical floor boxes and carpet will be installed in the Native American Rooms and audio video work will be done in the Auditorium. As a result of these projects, the Activity Center will be closed from June 16th through June 30th. The lobby tile will not be replaced at this time nor will the restrooms be re-tiled. These projects will be referred to an ad hoc committee that will work with a commercial designer to determine what improvements will be made to the facility.
  • Restrooms: During the next couple of months, several of the restrooms in the various facilities will be refreshed with new tile, stall enclosures, etc. Notice will be given prior to restroom work.
  • Pickleball/Bocceball:Plans are progressing. Next week, the contractor and I will meet with the Town staff to discuss the projects. This type of communication general helps the approval process proceed with minimal issues. As I have noted in the past, our goal is to begin construction on the concrete work, which does not require a permit prior to issuance of permits for the lighting. If this can be accomplished, the courts will be completed much sooner than if it is necessary to begin construction after the permits are issued by the Town.
  • Chalk Creek Wash:As of today, the plans are under review by the Town. I don't expect the review to take much longer yet it depends on whether or not the plans are approved or are sent back to the engineering firm with additional comments that must be resolved before the permit can be issued. In the meantime, additional bids are being secured for construction of the erosion control infrastructure.
