Questions, comments, etc. regarding This Week's SCOV Report: If you have a question, comment or other response that you like to make regarding an item in this report, you may reply to this message. Depending on the nature of your response (comment, question, etc.), I will acknowledge your reply, answer your questions or take other appropriate action(s) in as timely a manner as possible.

Recycling: The recycling program that began on May 1st at the Association's facilities is NOT intended for your home recycling materials. Please do not bring your recycle items from home to deposit them in the recycle bins located in the facilities. Also, do NOT put anything in the aluminum recycling bins outside of the Activity Center except aluminum. The purpose of the recycling program is to encourage resident and guests to recycling bottles, plastic, metal cans and paper that they are disposing when using the facilities. For example, if you just finished a bottle of water or are through reading a newspaper while in one of the facilities, you are encouraged to dispose those items in the recycle bins rather than the trash.

Active Health Committee:Interested in being part of an excellent committee that promotes a healthy lifestyle for all? If so, the Active Health Committee is seeking new members. Stop by the Committee meeting next week on Tuesday, May 13th at 1 p.m. in the Welcome Center conference room 3 to find out all about the great things that this committee does.

Mountain Vista parking lot construction: The schedule has been set for the north portion of the parking lot to be re-constructed. Work will begin on June 23rd and is scheduled for completion on July 2nd. During this time, there will be no driving or parking on the lot north of the entry adjacent to the Welcome Center. Work will also be taking place in the Activity Center (tile and carpet) during some of this time but the exact schedule has not yet been set. The Activity Center will be closed during part or all of the time that the carpet and tile work is taking place.

Dispose-A-Med   Empty your medicine cabinet and bring your unused or expired prescriptions, over the counter medications, vitamins/supplements to the Sun City Activity Center and dispose of them properly. The Oro Valley Police and the Sun City Vistoso Community Foundation will be there to accept the above items.

When:        2nd Tuesday, every other month 9-11am
Schedule: 2014 - 5/13, 7/8, 9/9, 11/11
                    2015 - 1/13, 3/10, 5/12, 7/13, 9/14, 11/9
Where:      Sun City Oro Valley Activity Center
There are important changes in the Dispose-A-Med program procedures. The Foundation has not been involved in making these changes. The new regulations are a result of DEA changes which are to be followed by the Oro Valley Police, and as a result, the Foundation. Here are the new regulations:

  1. The Oro Valley Police and Foundation personnel in attendance are no longer allowed to handle the items brought in for disposal. The person with the medications will need to separate the pill type items and the liquid or jell type items themselves and will then be shown which Oro Valley Police containers are to be used for the deposit. The items do not need to be opened; they can be deposited in the original bottle/container in which they are packaged.
  2. We no longer can accept syringes, inhalers or empty medicine bottles and things like elastic or other bandages, and other non-medication items.

Only prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins/supplements, etc. items can be accepted.

TRX Training: Here's a reminder that the TRX Presentation is scheduled for May 16, 2014 at Noon in the AFC, Studio#1. At the conclusion of the presentation there will be a sign up sheets for small group hands on TRX instruction. Eight one hour, small group, sessions will be offered on different dates and times. Sessions will be limited to a maximum of five people. Residents are required to attend the TRX Presentation to be eligible for the small group sessions.

Unauthorized use of AFC: As I noted in a previous SCOV report, there is some thought that local nonresidents are sneaking in and using the AFC. In an effort to determine if this is occurring, the monitors will be conducting random spot checks as people enter the facilities. Those individuals who enter the facility without a resident card or fob will be asked if they are a resident or nonresident. Nonresident will obviously be asked to leave and not return. Residents will be asked to get their card or fob and return to the AFC. We understand that this process may result in a slight inconvenience to some residents yet I hope everyone will understand that this and other possible measure are being undertaken to protect your rights, privileges and facilities as these facilities are for you and your guests exclusive use. Every resident can help assure that the facilities remain only for your use by always bringing your resident card or fob; always scanning your card or fob; and never lettering anyone tag behind you and not scan his/her card/fob.
