Tucson Symphony String Quartet Sunday, April 27: The TSO String Quartet is always requested by the residents of SCOV. There is no need to drive to the Tucson Music Hall to enjoy a great performance. There will be theater seating and no food or drinks. The doors will open at 1:30, performance at 2:00 p.m. in the Auditorium. We do not receive advance notice as to what music will be played. Tickets are on sale at the Welcome Center $15 per person. Tickets will be available at the door. Please have correct change or make checks payable to SCOV - Thank you

2014-15 Association Budget: The Board of Directors approved the 2014-15 Budget at the April Board meeting. The Budget reflects a slight increase in the annual dues of $20. The primary reason for this increase of just over 1% was due to the necessity of increasing the Asset Reserve Fund allocation by $50,000 and the implementation of a new Wash Fund that has an annual allocation of $15,000 with a total accumulative cap of $100,000 in the Fund. One issue that was debated in the Budget was the price of the Activity Card. The Board approved an increase in the card from $15 to $20 for a 10 punch card. However, the Board also approved an optional annual Activity Card pass for a fee of $300. This annual Activity Card will allow any resident to take an unlimited number of classes given by the Association for one set fee. So, for resident who take a limited number of classes, the punch card will usually be the best option but residents who typically take at least three classes a week will likely be better off purchasing the annual pass.

Post Cards: We now have a SCOV postcard available for you to send to your friends and family - a great way to let them know "Wish You Were Here". These cards are free and are available at The Welcome Center and the library. This is also a great way to help promote our community and encourage others to check us out as well. The Welcome Center is open M - F from 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM and Saturday 9 AM - Noon. If you have any questions, please call 520-917-8068.

Happy Hour:Next happy hour - Friday, May 2. Mark your calendars!

Visit the Café from 3 to 6:Have you thought about stopping in the Café for a mid-or late-afternoon bite or drink. Most people don't utilize the Café during those hours due to the kitchen shutting down at 3 p.m. but there's still plenty of food and drink to get from 3 to 6. Our new Director, Vince has brought in some new beers, wine and liquors so you're not confined to the previous choices. He also has various appetizers and hot dogs plus he's coming up with several new items. It's a great place/time to visit with your friends and neighbors over your favorite beverage and maybe a small bite to eat.

Scam: I received a report that one of our residents had her debit card information lifted from a gas pump. To prevent this from happening, I was told that it's important to push the "cancel" button when you're through pumping your gas.

Nonresident use of fitness center: It's been brought to my attention that there is some unauthorized use of the fitness center by nonresidents. The indication is that a few or possibly more than a few nonresidents heard about how great the SCOV fitness center is and also heard that all they have to do is follow a resident in who activates the door with his/her card or fob. In reality, this claim or actual abuse by some nonresidents is nothing new as it has been dealt with in past years. Assuming this abuse is taking place, the administration is considering implementing additional procedures such as requiring everyone who uses the fitness center to keep their access card or fob on them and visible. Additional staffing at an additional cost could also be put into place so there is always a monitor at the counter but that would be our last choice. Obviously not all ideas can be implemented; however, any valid no cost or very low cost ideas you may have that would be palatable to the membership would be appreciated.

Cell phones in facilities: Here's a suggestion. If you happen to get a call on your cell phone when using the facilities, please consider taking your call outside or in a remote area of the facility as a courtesy to others. Most of us speak in a normal voice when in person-to-person conversation but often speak very loudly when talking on a cell phone which can disturb those around you. Thanks for your consideration.

Café Candlelight Dinner: Saturday, April 26th: The Tipster announced that the Candlelight Dinner date in April will be on the 25th which is a Friday and is the typical day of the week for the Candlelight Dinners. However, due to a conflict with a large banquet, the Candlelight Dinner will be held on Saturday, April 26th.

New Golf School: The Views is offering an intermediate golf school starting May 10, and just a few spaces are left. Don't miss out! Only $120 for six one-hour lessons (a bargain at $20/ea.). Dates are May 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 & 25 from 8:30-9:30 AM. Sign up online HERE
