Questions, comments, etc. regarding This Week's SCOV Report: If you have a question, comment or other response that you like to make regarding an item in this report, you may reply to this message. Depending on the nature of your response (comment, question, etc.), I will acknowledge your reply, answer your questions or take other appropriate action(s) in as timely a manner as possible.

Fitness Center Report: Although there are finishing touches needed and we're still waiting for Comcast to install the cable for television and internet, the fitness center is open. The goal was to complete the project by December 31st; however, the contract with W.E. O'Neil scheduled the completion on January 5th. Since the temporary certificate of occupancy was granted on January 7th, my thought is that this six month project was completed on time. Also, as of this juncture, the project is a few thousand dollars under budget. We expected a couple of minor adjustments to the costs yet it's very likely that the project will be completed within a very few thousand dollars one way or another of budget. I'm sure there will be a great deal of satisfaction with the new facilities and some complaints yet overall, this project, which is the largest undertaken by SCOV, is a quality project that will add value to many of the resident's lives and will enhance the community.

Fitness Center Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening: A very successful ribbon cutting and grand opening was held on Thursday, January 9th. Dozens of our wonderful volunteer Board and committee members were recognized at the event along with several Town Councilmembers, our architect and contractor. One committee that I failed to recognize for its donation to the project is the Community Assistance Committee. I apologize for that oversight and thank the committee for its participation in the project. This event also gave the Association the opportunity to recognize Duane Bowen who worked tirelessly in an effort to have the fitness center remodel and expand. Duane passed away before he could see the project approved and completed, and his wife Jane was in attendance to accept the recognition plaque. This plaque will be placed in the fitness center and a duplicate plaque will be given to Mrs. Bowen. Here are a couple of photos of the ceremony, one that shows the ribbon cutting and another displaying the presentation to Jane Bowen.

Fitness Center Equipment Use and Training: Training is offered to all Association members for the new fitness equipment. Obviously, not everyone can be trained immediately. Therefore, while you are highly encouraged to be trained on the equipment prior to use, that may not be practical. Therefore, you are asked to be very cautious when using the fitness equipment whether you have been trained or not. In addition, it's important to advise you that the fitness equipment is used at your own risk and the Association shall not be responsible for any injury that may occur from use of the fitness equipment.

Board of Directors Information Packets Now Available Online: Prior to every meeting of the Board, including Study Sessions, administrative staff prepares a packet of information pertaining to the issues to be considered during the meeting and makes it available to the Directors.  The packet is also available in the library.  At its December meeting the Board acted on a recommendation from the Communications Committee and voted unanimously to make packets available online so as to provide another resource for residents to receive information about issues before the Board.  If you want to understand what your Board is doing and why, then looking at the documents in the packet is an important first step, regardless of whether you choose to attend Board meetings.

To access the packets go to the SCOV website (www.scovaz.com), click on Association, Board Meetings, and then 2013 - 2014 Board Packet or click here. Packets will be available approximately 3-5 business days before each meeting.  An email containing a link to the current packet will be sent when it is available, just as is now done when Board agendas and minutes become available.

Help Wanted, Monitor: Looking for a part time job? Don't want to drive far? We are in need of a monitor to work at the Catalina Vista, Activity Center or Aquatic and Fitness Center. If you are interested, call Pam Sarpalius at 917-8077.

Club Presidents' Meeting: On Tuesday, January 14th all club leaders/presidents are urged to attend the annual Club President/Leader meeting. The meeting will be in the Auditorium at 9am sharp. If the club president/leader cannot attend please send a representative from your club.  Important information will be reviewed and an information packet will be handed out.

Dispose-A-Med:   Empty your medicine cabinet and bring your unused or expired prescriptions, over the counter medications, vitamins/supplements to the Sun City Activity Center and dispose of them properly.  The Oro Valley Police and the Sun City Vistoso Community Foundation will be there to accept the above items.

When:  2nd Tuesday, every other month 9-11am

      Schedule: 2014 - 1/14, 3/11, 5/13, 7/8, 9/9, 11/11

    Where: Sun City Activity Center

There are important changes in the Dispose-A-Med program procedures.  The Foundation has not been involved in making these changes.  The new regulations are a result of DEA changes which are to be followed by the Oro Valley Police, and as a result, the Foundation.  Here are the new regulations:

  1. The Oro Valley Police and Foundation personnel in attendance are no longer allowed to handle the items brought in for disposal.  The person with the medications will need to separate the pill type items and the liquid or jell type items themselves and will then be shown which Oro Valley Police containers are to be used for the deposit.  The items do not need to be opened; they can be deposited in the original bottle/container in which they are packaged.
  2. We no longer can accept syringes, inhalers or empty medicine bottles and things like elastic or other bandages, and other non-medication items.

Only prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins/supplements, etc. items can be accepted.

Landlords: Do you rent out your home? Please be advised of the following:

  1. Before we can issue any renter(s) cards, we MUST have your membership cards on file AND your HOA dues must be up to date.
  2. There is a new form that must be completed by you and returned by your renter(s) along with a copy of the lease when they come in to receive their renter's cards. Please find this form here or on the website (www.scovaz.com). Go to Association, Governing Documents and click on Renter/Delegated Form.
  3. The issuance fee of a renter card is $50 per person and that is good for the length of the lease.

Any questions? Please contact the Administration office at 520-825-3711.

Attention Annual Golf Pass Holders: We're having a party! And you are most cordially invited to attend the Annual Pass Holder Appreciation Dinner. Oro Valley's Future Event: Do you have suggestions for what should be happening in Oro Valley during the next 10 years?  The opportunity to be part of this conversation will come to you on Tuesday, January 14th, at 1 PM in the Auditorium.  Are you curious about the recent phone survey OV has done to gather information?  Results will be shared.  Also, Councilmember Joe Hornat will close the meeting with an update on happenings in Oro Valley along with a special report on our water supply, currently and into the foreseeable future.  This event is sponsored by the Government Affairs Committee.

County Supervisor Ally Miller Presentation Postponed: An earlier calendar showed an October 30th presentation by Pima County Supervisor Ally Miller; however this has been postponed until a later time.  There will be NO EVENT on January 30th sponsored by the Government Affairs Committee.

Copper Health Oro Valley (formally Villa Fatima): The facility on the corner of Rancho Vistoso Blvd. and Sun City Blvd. will have a ground breaking ceremony on Thursday, January 16th at 4:30 p.m. In addition to the work that is going on at the site, this is a good sign that the project is moving forward.
