Desert Museum Presentation: Here's a follow up to a correction that was previously sent out on "In The Know" regarding the Desert Museum presentation which will be held on February 11th.  Please note that there are a limited number of free tickets for this event and they will be handed out at the Welcome Center on January 21st starting at 7:30 am.

Fitness Center project: There will very likely be a few finishing touches that will be needed yet the plan is to have a Grand Opening, Open House for the Fitness Center from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, January 9th. So, please come by get a water bottle & healthy treat while they last and tour the new facilities. There will not be any use of the fitness center on that day but if all goes well, the fitness center will be open for use on Friday, January 10th. If anything should change in regard to the Grand Opening and/or first day of use, information will be disseminated immediately.

You've probably already noticed the sculptures that have been installed to fulfill the Town's artwork requirement for the fitness center project. The sculpture near the entry of the Activity Center is a happy dancing couple that reflects dancing and other activities that go on in that facility. Another sculpture has been installed near the entry of the fitness center. This sculpture is called the Fitness Buff and it depicts many of the activities that take place in the fitness center.

Another important bit of information is that per contract with the company that purchased the old fitness equipment, it will be removed from the Hopi Room on January 6th. If all goes as planned, which looks promising at this point, this situation will only result in a lack of fitness equipment to use for a very few days as the fitness center is planned to open for use on January 10th.

Soon the AFC gym will be open for a whole new experience. Please remember to bring your membership card to allow you to enter the gym and the pool area. Secure Access will be installed and it works the same as to does at the Desert Oasis and Catalina Vista

LIFE FITNESS EQUIPMENT APP for us at AFC: While you are waiting for the AFC to open you can down load the LF (LifeFitness) connect app. This app can be used with the new LifeFitness equipment. The LFconnect app allows Apple and Android devices to interact with compatible Life Fitness cardio and strength equipment. It tracks workouts, lets exercisers access personalized workouts, provides motivation and serves as an in-workout display on cardio equipment. Download the app ahead of time and set up your account at www.lfconnect.com.

Fitness Center Project Updates: Would you like more information about the status of the Fitness Center construction project? If so, attend the Board/GM Coffees. At these events, until the project is completed, a member of the Fitness Center Construction Task Force will provide a report and answer any questions you might have. The next Coffee is scheduled for January 7th at 10:00 a.m. Navajo Room.  It's your fitness center being built with your money, so I urge you to come and learn what's happening with its construction. Detailed information about what the Fitness Center Construction Task Force is doing is available on our website  www.scovaz.comFrom the home page, click on "Association" and then on "Fitness Center Info". There you will find the minutes of the meetings that the Task Force has with the architect and contractor. You can also send your questions about the project to afcremodel@suncityorovalley.com.

AFC Pool Information Line: During the construction of the fitness center, it will be necessary to close the pool from time-to-time. To assist you with knowing when these closures will take place, an information line has been put into place. If you'll call 917-8088 before you go to the pool, you'll receive a message letting you know if the pool is open or closed.

Rancho Vistoso Median Landscaping: The report that I received today from AAA Landscaping is that a lane closure notice will be posted on January 13th for the planting project. This notice needs to be posted for five days prior to beginning the planting. The plant installation will begin the next week and all plants will be installed by the end of January. Again, as soon as the first phase is complete, work will begin on the second phase of the project, which is the area from near Green Tree to the bottom of the hill on Rancho Vistoso.

The Board invites you: The Board of Directors wants to invite you to each and every Study Session and Board Meeting. Your thoughts and input are important and one of the best ways to be heard is by attending these monthly meetings. In addition, to this invitation the Board would like you to stop by the meetings 15 minutes before the meetings begin so you and the Board Members can have an opportunity for a casual conversation. This pre-meeting period will give you an opportunity to have one-on-one time with Board Members so you can either talk about light social issues or an Association related issue that may be very important to you. The January Study Session will be held on January 9th in the Welcome Center Conference Room 3 at 9 a.m. so please stop by a little early.
