Questions, comments, etc. regarding This Week's SCOV Report: If you have a question, comment or other response that you like to make regarding an item in this report, you may reply to this message. Depending on the nature of your response (comment, question, etc.), I will acknowledge your reply, answer your questions or take other appropriate action(s) in as timely a manner as possible.

The Posse needs your help: The following notice has been in this report for the past few weeks and no one has come forward to volunteer for leadership in the Posse, which is unfortunate. Please consider offering your services to best assure that the Posse will continue to be a viable entity that truly helps keep SCOV a safe play to live.

The Posse is always looking for volunteers to join our squads and participate in our Neighborhood Patrols.  Now, we are also looking to fill three positions on the Posse Board by or before the end of the year.  They are the Posse Committee Chairperson, a Squad Leader and the Committee Secretary.  The new Posse Committee Chairperson will replace the retiring Posse Chair, Del Balston.  The open Squad Leader position is created by the retirement of Squad E Co-Leader, Dee Bethke.  The opening in the Secretary position is created by the former Secretary, Pat Monson, giving up that position to focus more time on her Squad A Co-Leader tasks.  Any SCOV resident who is interested in any of these important positions should contact John Njaa at 825-5486 or 619-517-0006.

Holiday Hours: Happy Thanksgiving! Here's a quick reminder that the Aquatic and Fitness Center pool will be open from 5 AM - 5 PM on Thanksgiving Day and all other facilities will be closed. As usual the Welcome Center (Administration and Library) will be closed Thursday through Sunday. Also, the Library drop box will be locked so hold on to any books, etc. that you have checked out until Monday, December 2nd. There will be no late fees for books that are due over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Desert Oasis Tennis Courts: Beginning Monday, December 2nd, warranty work will begin on the Desert Oasis Courts. The courts are expected to be closed for at least ten days. I apologize for any inconvenience yet it is essential that this work is completed as soon as possible.

SCOV Sock Drive for Tucson's Homeless Veterans: Donations to the Sock Drive are coming in from individuals, several SOCV clubs, and the Heritage Highlands Clogging Group.  The VA prefers white tube socks but is happy with all new socks.  If you want to contribute money to buy socks at a discount get in touch with Sandy and Hal Jasper, 818-1785 by December 10th.  You can still bring socks to the Activity Center and Welcome Center until December 15th.

Food Drive: A huge Thank You is in order. The Sun City Oro Valley Vistoso Cyclists' food drive surpassed our goal. Once again, we stepped up to reach 22,779 pounds, exceeding our goal of 20,000. It is delightful to be part of such a compassionate and caring community. We can take pride in our efforts to make life better for those in need. The Interfaith Community Services, beneficiary of our success is grateful for the food they will provide to families and seniors this holiday season. Special thanks to the SCV Community Foundation for their gift-match.

Saturday, December 21 - Holiday Golf Cart Parade:  A registration form is in the November Tipster. Prizes: 1st place $100 2nd place $75 and 3rd place $50. Join in the fun by being in the parade or come out to watch it. Also if you don't have a golf cart why not have a cart represent a club. The deadline to turn in your form is December 2 at 4pm. Judging will be done by nonresidents. If you don't have a registration form, they are available at the Welcome Center. Please drop off completed registration forms at the Welcome Center.

Sun City Singers, your chance to donate food for the Food Pantry: Tuesday, December 3 and Friday, December 6, the Sun City Singers will have boxes for food donations to benefit the Food Pantry.  The need for food has raised sharply as food stamp benefits decrease and more families face economic difficulties.  If you are attending one of these popular Holiday concerts, bring non-perishable food items to help those who do not have enough to eat during this holiday season.

Fitness Center Project: Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, the task force did not meet this week. The important fact is that the project continues to roll along, still on time and under budget. If all continues as planned, the project will be completed on December 31st. Although the project may be complete at the end of the year, it's likely that the facility may not be open for a few days after that to give time to test all the systems and equipment. I anticipate that the facility will be in full use sometime in the second week of January but that's only a projection based on information available at this time. To give you an idea of the progress, two photos are included. One is of the multipurpose rooms showing drywall installation progress the other photo is the new entry.

AFC Pool Information Line:During the construction of the fitness center, it will be necessary to close the pool from time-to-time. To assist you with knowing when these closures will take place, an information line has been put into place. If you'll call 917-8088 before you go to the pool, you'll receive a message letting you know if the pool is open or closed.
