Questions, comments, etc. regarding This Week's SCOV Report: If you have a question, comment or other response that you like to make regarding an item in this report, you may reply to this message. Depending on the nature of your response (comment, question, etc.), I will acknowledge your reply, answer your questions or take other appropriate action(s) in as timely a manner as possible.

Bylaws Review Volunteers: In an effort to eliminate duplications in the Bylaws and CC&Rs; eliminate conflicting stipulations in the documents; bring the Bylaws in compliance with State statutes; and correct a few undesirable or conflicting stipulations within the Bylaws, the Association's attorney was asked to make proposed revisions to the Bylaws. This task has been accomplished which has resulted in considerable re-writing of the document. Prior to sending the Bylaws to the Membership for a vote, the Board is seeking to have a small group of residents review the proposed restated Bylaws and cover letter that will be included in the ballot. The preliminary plan is to have this group of volunteers initially meet the first week of December. Depending on quickly this review process moves along, there may be anywhere from a total of two to six meetings to discuss the Bylaws and cover letter with the goal of  providing input to the board of directors. The size of this group will be limited to about 10 people to best assure that it will be functional. If you are interested in volunteering for the group, please email me at bmariani@suncityorovalley.com

Fitness Center Project: As noted in last week's report, the budget and timeline are very tight. With that stated, the project is within budget and the contractor continues to indicate that the fitness center will be completed on time.

AFC Pool Information Line: During the construction of the fitness center, it will be necessary to close the pool from time-to-time. To assist you with knowing when these closures will take place, an information line has been put into place. If you'll call 917-8088 before you go to the pool, you'll receive a message letting you know if the pool is open or closed.

Librarian: PART-TIME LIBRARIAN WANTED:  The individual must be a team player.  Our library is a friendly, welcoming, fun, community center with about 13,000 books, DVDs, and CDs. The librarian is responsible for the management and daily operation of the library.  He/she will recruit, train and supervise volunteer staff, select, purchase, and process new items, and maintain the collection.  Duties include: managing the library budget, cataloging and processing materials, maintaining the library database, shopping and negotiating trade-ins and discounts, which requires travel to various locations. In addition she/he will purchase library supplies, coordinate special events, organize book sales, and work with the Friends of the Library.  If interested, please email resume to jobscov@gmail.com

The Posse needs your help: The Posse is always looking for volunteers to join our squads and participate in our Neighborhood Patrols.  Now, we are also looking to fill three positions on the Posse Board by or before the end of the year.  They are the Posse Committee Chairperson, a Squad Leader and the Committee Secretary.  The new Posse Committee Chairperson will replace the retiring Posse Chair, Del Balston.  The open Squad Leader position is created by the retirement of Squad E Co-Leader, Dee Bethke.  The opening in the Secretary position is created by the former Secretary, Pat Monson, giving up that position to focus more time on her Squad A Co-Leader tasks.  Any SCOV resident who is interested in any of these important positions should contact John Njaa at 825-5486 or 619-517-0006.

SCOV Sock Drive for Tucson's Homeless Veterans:  It begins at our Veterans Day event.  Boxes will be at the Veterans Day program and in the Activity Center and Welcome Center for new white socks to be dropped off until December 15th.  If anyone wants to contribute money for socks to be bought at a big discount they can call Sandy and Hal Jasper at 818-1785.

Saturday, December 21 - Holiday Golf Cart Parade:  A registration form is in the November Tipster. Prizes: 1st place $100 2nd place $75 and 3rd place $50.  Join in the fun by being in the parade or come out to watch it. Also if you don't have a golf cart why not have a cart represent a club. The deadline to turn in your form is December 2 at 4pm. Judging will be done by nonresidents. If you don't have a registration form, they are available at the Welcome Center. Please drop off completed registration forms at the Welcome Center.

Reduce Bad Stress Event: Too much stress is bad for you.  Let three experts teach you how to "Reduce the Bad Stress" next Friday, November 22nd at 1:00 PM in the auditorium.   Dr. Jim Nicolai, formerly Medical Director at Miraval Resort and a medical partner of Dr. Andrew Weil, will show you the technique of Walking Meditation, about which he has written a book; Joe Pinella, Qi Gong instructor will let you try some Qi Gong exercises; and Maria Mendola, Yoga therapist and instructor, will let you try Yoga which reduces stress.  Wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to put the bad stress behind you.  There is no charge for this Active Health Committee event but you will want to take a raffle ticket at the door as each of the three presenters will be donating a prize.

Wreaths Across America: Here's an excellent way to honor our veterans. At www.wreathsacrossamerica.org you can support this organization's mission of "remember, honor, teach" and our veterans by purchasing a wreath. These wreaths are placed on the grave markers at state & national veterans cemeteries as well as local cemeteries each December.

AFC Pool covering and hours: It won't be much longer until we will have a new AFC and the monitor schedule will be back in place. The pool has been kept open for your use during construction. During the summer we don't cover our pool, since there is no need.  Covering the AFC pool is a difficult task and requires two monitors.  Since there is no monitor on duty at the AFC, a monitor from either the Catalina Vista or the Desert Oasis must help the Activity Center monitor cover the pool. To achieve this coordination the AFC pool may have to be covered earlier than its usual closing time and it is not possible to give an advanced notice. We ask for your cooperation during these last few months and schedule your swimming time to be done by 8pm in the event that we have to cover the pool earlier. - Pam Sarpalius, Programs and Facilities Director

Comment cards: Have you had a positive or negative experience at the Café or Pro Shop that you wanted to mention but didn't fill out a comment card at the time? Well, you can convey your thoughts and fill out that comment card in the comfort of your own home. Just go to www.theviewsgolfclub.com/survey for any pro shop/golf comments and www.suncityvistoso.wufoo.com/forms/z7p7k7 for any Café related comments.

File of Life: In case you are not aware, the File of Life is a form or file that an individual can place all of his/her medical information. This file is placed on the individual's refrigerator so that it can be accessed by EMS and Fire personnel who respond to an emergency medical situation at the individual's home. This file can be a real life saver. So, if you'd like to help protect yourself in a case of a medical emergency, the File of Life forms are available at the Administration Office. I understand that you can pick them up at the fire station and you can also access the files and print them out on-line at:

www.cityofnovi.org/Services/Fire/CommunityPrograms/FileOfLifeMedicalForms.pdf

Fitness Center Project Updates: Would you like more information about the status of the Fitness Center construction project? If so, attend the Board/GM Coffees. At these events, until the project is completed, a member of the Fitness Center Construction Task Force will provide a report and answer any questions you might have. The next Coffee is scheduled for November 19th at 1:00 p.m. in the Navajo Room.  It's your fitness center being built with your money, so I urge you to come and learn what's happening with its construction. Detailed information about what the Fitness Center Construction Task Force is doing is available on our website www.suncityorovalley.com.   From the home page, click on "Association" and then on "Fitness Center Info". There you will find the minutes of the meetings that the Task Force has with the architect and contractor. You can also send your questions about the project to afcremodel@suncityorovalley.com
