The Board invites you: The Board of Directors wants to invite you to each and every Study Session and Board Meeting. Your thoughts and input are important and one of the best ways to be heard is by attending these monthly meetings. In addition, to this invitation the Board would like you to stop by the meetings 15 minutes before the meetings begin so you and the Board Members can have an opportunity for a casual conversation. This pre-meeting period will give you an opportunity to have one-on-one time with Board Members so you can either talk about light social issues or an Association related issue that may be very important to you. The October Study Session will be held on the 10th in the Welcome Center Conference Room 3 at 9 a.m. so please stop by a little early.

New Resident Meet & Greet- Get to know your neighbors and community at a New Resident Meet & Greet. If you moved here in the past six months, please consider attending this event. The Ambassadors and staff will be providing information about SCOV. Breakfast is provided.  Click Here  to register now as space is limited.

AFC Update: They are pouring concrete slabs and will continue to work on the walls for the expansion area. The telephone line at the Tennis Court will not be assessable until the communications closet at the AFC is completed and the phone lines installed. Many have cell phones for use, but if a land line is needed, please go to the Café or Pro Shop.

Resident Trash Service: Residents please keep in mind that trash cans/dumpsters on all SCOV facility properties should not be used for personal trash. We are finding SCOV containers being used by residents for large bags of personal trash. Residents need to have personal trash picked up at their homes. The two waste removal companies listed in the SCOV phone book are: Waste Management - 520-744-2600 and Saguaro Environment Services - 520-745-8820. Please call one of these companies to start your trash pickup service.

Governor's Advisory Council on Aging Meeting, October 8: The Government Affairs Committee is facilitating a meeting in SCOV where the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging, state legislators and local officials will listen to our members as well as our wider community on "issues of importance to seniors in our state".  It will be held Tuesday, October 8, 1-3 PM, Auditorium. The Council's purpose is to advise the Governor, Legislature and all State Departments on all matters and issues relating to aging, including the administration of the State Plan on Aging.  It would be a feather in SCOV's cap to have our legislators present, and also to have a good turnout from our citizens.   Plan to attend and please call our District 11 legislators and ask them to attend: Senator Al Melvin 602-295-4326, House members Adam Kwasman 602-926-5839 and Steve Smith 602-926-5685.

Stress: Too Little or Too Much? We all have stress in our lives.  But just how much is healthy?  How much is debilitating?  You won't want to miss the Active Health presentation "Stress:  Too Little or Too Much?"  on Friday, October 11 at 1 PM in the Auditorium.  (No tickets are necessary.)  The University of Arizona's Mary-Frances O'Connor will tell us about her research on stress and its effect on your health and your ability to think and reason effectively.

Piano Concert at SCOV: Tickets are now on sale for the Mary Martin Stockdale piano concert on October 19, 7 PM, Auditorium. Mary will perform her own arrangements and other great composers and show tunes. This is not a classical music performance. She has performed I other active adult communities. Doors open at 6:30, theater seating, no food or drinks. Tickets can be purchased at the Welcome Center, $10 PP.

Pool Winter Hours: Winter facility hours started October 1. Please check the pool schedules in the evenings before you go to the pool. Since it is not cold enough to cover the pools yet you may stay a little longer at the Desert Oasis pool. When evenings start to turn cold both pools will be covered as scheduled.

Harvest Festival at Steam Pump Ranch: The Town of Oro Valley and the OV Historical Society will host the Harvest Festival at the Steam Pump Ranch on Oracle Road (just north of Home Depot) on Saturday, October 12, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public. The OV farmer's market and craft vendors will be available throughout the morning. Tours of the Steam Pump ranch house will be conducted from 9-10 AM.  Jim Williams, a local historian and Sun City resident, will present a talk on "Tucson in the 1930s" from 10:00 to 11:00 am.  A country band will entertain throughout the morning.  Come on out!
