New Café Healthy Fish of the Week: Starting Monday, Sept. 23rd, the Café will be featuring a new menu item. Each week, a different fish will be offered and served either grilled or Cajun style, with a choice of cottage cheese, tomatoes or fruit or may have the fish served in a salad. Join The Café's email list or The Café's Facebook page to be kept up to date on which fish will be the Fish of the Week.
Fitness Center Project report: As noted last week, the project is a week behind schedule according to W.E. O'Neil's Gant schedule; however, the superintendent is confident that he will make up time and finish on schedule. Recently the Task Force has been heavily involved in decisions regarding décor issues such as tile types/colors, fixtures, mirrors and more. Considerable time has been and is being dedicated by the Task Force volunteers and staff to best assure that the fitness center is not only very functional but is also attractive.
Café Décor Project: As noted last week, the Café interior was painted earlier this week and the Café is open after a one day closure. In addition to painting the Café, tile has been installed on the back wall of the counter area and new seating has been placed in the entry. There are a few more steps to take before the project is complete including installation of a wall to screen the kitchen area from the dining area and new artwork on the north wall plus a few new accessory items.
In regard to the new artwork resident volunteers are in the process of creating this artwork for the interior north wall in the Café plus the entry wall. It will be a few weeks before the artwork is complete. So, please be patient as I anticipate that you will find the new wall art to be very pleasing. Also, the artwork that was in the Café will continue to be enjoyed by our residents as it will be placed in the Desert Oasis. Again, it will be at least a few weeks before the Café artwork is installed in the Desert Oasis.

Club Leaders/Presidents: On October 26, 2010 the Board of Directors passed a policy, ADM-009. This policy limits club storage in our facilities. The main area of concern now is the storage area behind the Native American rooms in the Activity Center. Decorations should be very limited in these storage areas. The policy states "storage will be allowed for items used on a regular basis for the club to function". Decorations that are used once a year do not meet this requirement. ILR will be moving to the Native American rooms and storage is needed for the ILR materials. We ask that you review at your storage area and remove all items that are not used on a regular basis for the club to function by October 25th. Along with ILR new clubs are forming and they are in need of storage space also. We thank you for your cooperation.
AFC Pool Information Line: During the construction of the fitness center, it will be necessary to close the pool from time-to-time. To assist you with knowing when these closures will take place, an information line has been put into place. If you'll call 917-8088 before you go to the pool, you'll receive a message letting you know if the pool is open or closed.
The Board invites you: The Board of Directors wants to invite you to each and every Study Session and Board Meeting. Your thoughts and input are important and one of the best ways to be heard is by attending these monthly meetings. In addition, to this invitation the Board would like you to stop by the meetings 15 minutes before the meetings begin so you and the Board Members can have an opportunity for a casual conversation. This pre-meeting period will give you an opportunity to have one-on-one time with Board Members so you can either talk about light social issues or an Association related issue that may be very important to you. The September Board Meeting will be held on the 24th in the Welcome Center Conference Room 3 at 9 a.m. so please stop by a little early.
Garbage & Recycle Cans: As a reminder to all residents, the SCOV Development Standards require all garbage and recycle cans to not be visible from the street or neighboring property, other than on trash pickup days. Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated.
Membership cards and lanyards: Here's a reminder that if you'd like to use a lanyard with your membership card, please go to the Desert Oasis where a monitor will punch a hole in your card and issue a lanyard to you.
