Happy Holidays: This is the last TWISCOV report that you see before the end of the current holiday season so wanted to be sure to wish everyone a very happy holiday season and an exceptionally safe, healthy and prosperous 2014.

Questions, comments, etc. regarding This Week's SCOV Report: If you have a question, comment or other response that you like to make regarding an item in this report, you may reply to this message. VOTE for The Views Golf Club and Café at Sun City: The Explorer is running its "Best of the Northwest" again this year. Last year some of our local competitors won this contest which we don't want to happen again. So, please log on to www.explorernews.com/vote. Near the top right, click on register and register to vote. Then you'll see a list of categories on the left side of the page. Click on "Food and Drink", then click "Best Breakfast" and write in a vote for the "Café at Sun City". After voting for the Café, click on "Retirement Living" then click on "Best Active Living Community" and write in "Sun City Oro Valley". Last, click on "Sports and Recreation" then "Best golf course" and then write in "The Views Golf Course". Even if you're a little hesitant in voting for the Café, Community and/or Golf Club, please consider that casting votes and winning this contest is fantastic publicity for our facilities and community, which results in additional revenue, more potential home buyers and lower fees for our residents. Again, PLEASE VOTE FOR THE CAFÉ AT SUN CITY, SUN CITY ORO VALLEY AND THE VIEWS GOLF CLUB.

Fitness Center Update: Construction is fast and furious in an effort to meet the goal of completion by December 31st. To be candid, it will be a huge task to secure a temporary certificate of occupancy (TCO) by the end of the month. With that stated, if W. E. O'Neil is not able to meet that goal, a TCO will be granted within days after the end of the month. What is certain is that during the first couple of weeks of January there will be the expected adjustments here and there to get everything working properly and the landscaping will be installed. Also, the expectation is that Comcast will NOT have cable to the fitness center when it opens, which means no intcarpeternet or television in the facility until Comcast gets its work completed. As noted last week, in addition to the construction work, plans are in place to have a grand opening on January 9th. Of course, this is still tentative but is looking more and more certain. Here's a photo of the carpet that's being installed in the hallway and cardio/strength area. As you can see, this carpet will add some fun color to the facility and the nice thing is that it is carpet tiles so individual tiles can be replaced when soiled or worn.

Rancho Vistoso Blvd. landscaping: The latest word that we have is that AAA Landscaping will begin planting in the median early in January. They will start in the area by Green Tree and work their way up the hill. Once this area is complete and irrigation is installed in the median from Green Tree down the hill, that median will be planted.

Signs: There's been little word about the new signage recently so I wanted to let you know that lighting and landscaping is still in the works for the new signs that have been installed plus signage for the exterior and interior of the buildings has been specified and will soon be ordered.

Holiday Events: Thanks to all who participated in our two new events in December. The "cookie exchange" was a huge hit. There was a great selection of cookies to enjoy with coffee and new friends. There was also an excellent selection of cookies to take home. Many comments were made by participants and spectators that they hope this event will return. The weather did not stop the "SCOV Holiday Golf Cart Parade".  What a great turnout. Everyone in the parade had a fun time. Our judges had a hard time picking winners. The judges were Mary Snider, SCOV Councilwomen, Amy Graham, OV Police officer and OV Police Chief Dan Sharp. The winners were: 1st place, Dea Calvin; 2nd place, Mario Siracusa; and 3rd place, Don Hess. Photos will be in the February Tipster. The holidays are a great time for fun. Happy Holidays everyone - Pam Sarpalius, Programs and Facilities Director
