Twin River Outfitters 
is a full service canoe livery that rents canoes, kayaks, and inner tubes on the James & Maury Rivers in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. TRO offers its customers fun and safe white water paddling experiences with true mountain views. We are the oldest and most experienced outfitter operating on the Upper James River and have been safely running river trips since 1978. We run trips on nearly 100 miles of river in the Upper James River Basin area so have numerous trip options to suit every level of paddler.

LABOR DAY USED ANNUAL BOAT SALE ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Sale will start at 7:30 AM Labor Day Monday 9/1/2014 and run until all boats sold or 5pm.

 

Every year Twin River Outfitter's sells off a portion of its rental fleet.  All these boats are used and have been rented for at least one season.  This year we will have the following used boats for sale:

Pricing may vary on some boats depending on condition.  Prices do not include mandatory 5.3% VA sales tax which will be added to all boat purchases.  Used kayak paddles are available for $25, used canoe paddles are $15 each, used life jackets are $15.

NEW ACCESS POINTS

Earlier this month the towns of Glasgow and Clifton Forge both opened new public river access points. 
 
The new Glasgow ramp is a heavy timber steps to the James River providing a great launching point for those wanting tGlasgow Rampo paddle the James River Gorge section of the River and serves as a great take out for those that put in at the Alpine site.   Parking was also expanded to accommodate increased traffic as Glasgow's reputation grows as a paddling hub.


 

The Town of Clifton Forge built a new ramp on the Jackson River, a 10-minute drive from Douthat State Park. From this launch point about four miles upstream of the Lick Run access on the James, you can see where the James River actually starts at the confluence of the Jackson and Cowpasture Rivers.

JACKSON RIVER 2014 PULSE RELEASE SCHEDULE

  

COVINGTON, Va. - The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will conduct six pulse releases from June through October 2014.

  

The pulses, conducted by the Norfolk District in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, will begin at approximately 6 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m. and will increase levels 3 to 4.5 feet in the Jackson River.  The agencies advise people who use the river to be aware of the river fluctuations caused by the pulses. 

 

The remaining 2014 pulse dates are scheduled for the following Wednesdays:
 
Aug. 20,  Sept. 10,  Sept. 24,  Oct. 15

 

All dates are subject to change based on weather conditions and rainfall.

 

This means our shop in Buchanan, VA gets great water levels the 24 hours after the pulses.  So if you are looking to ride the pulse book a trip from Buchanan to Arcadia or Alpine the day after the above listed pulse dates.

UPPER JAMES RIVER CLEAN UP DAY 4 OCT 2014

Join the Upper James River Water Trail committee in partnership with Botetourt County, Clean Valley Council, Upper James RC&D, and Twin River Outfitters for our annual Clean Our River community clean up as a part of Fall Waterway Clean Up Project.
  
To Date, Twin River Outfitters and friends have collected over 950 tires over the last 6 years.

Volunteers are needed to clear trash and debris from the Upper James River in Botetourt County. If you would like more information on volunteering for this dirty job restoring our treasured James River then check out the link below for more info.
