Happy Spring!

Betsy Paynter

The construction season is in full swing with development happening in all corners of Newtown. Activity includes retail and professional space, medical buildings, housing and business expansions. It's all happening right here. Newtown was featured in the Fairfield County edition of New England Real Estate Journal last month. We have exciting projects to talk about. Newtown is located in Fairfield County, in the great state of Connecticut, offering a beautiful place to live, work and grow.

The Economic Development Commission (EDC) has welcomed multiple businesses this spring with ribbon cuttings almost weekly. Recently, Newtown and Sandy Hook Village embraced new businesses such as SOHO Pizza of Newtown, Exceptional Pet, GCS Computers and B U Juice Bar to town. The Newtown Way: Buy Local First Campaign, an EDC "Buy Local" initiative, encourages the community to buy locally. Promotional materials are provided to new and existing businesses to help them spread the "Buy Local" word and are available for download on our website too.

Newtown Chamber of Commerce is hosting their annual event, Destination Newtown, on May 20th, at Rock Ridge Country Club from 4-7pm. The EDC encourages all Newtown businesses to consider being a part of this community event. It's an opportunity for valuable networking, business promotion and Newtown restaurant sampling, not to be missed!

As farms prepare their crops for the growing season, I must mention the Farmers Market at Fairfield Hills Campus opens June 23rd from 2pm - 6pm, every Tuesday. Eat fresh & buy local - it's good for you and the community!
