Happy New Year from the EDC! 2014 is off to a great start. Newtown and Sandy Hook are seeing new business openings and development plans beginning to execute. In this newsletter, I've highlighted a few new developments within town and provided information on a range of commercial spaces for sale and lease. On the EDC website, www.newtown.org, we provide a site selection/property search link for those interested in commercial space in Newtown or Sandy Hook. The EDC hosted a successful business seminar series in 2013 at the Booth library. We are pleased to announce in 2014 the EDC will partner with the Newtown Chamber, SCORE and Newtown Savings Bank as our sponsor for both the spring & fall series. Learn about the Spring Seminars, the first one is Thursday, March 13th from 8am - 9:30am @ the Booth Library, mark your calendars! We hope to see you there.

 

Newtown's Elizabeth Stocker has been elected as President of CEDAS, Connecticut Economic Development Association, for a second term. CEDAS is a not-for-profit membership organization committed to advancing the practice and process of economic development in the state of Connecticut.

MBA Students Recommend Business IncubatorMBA Newtown EDC

The Newtown Economic Development Commission completed a project with a group of Sacred Heart University MBA students exploring the potential for a business innovation center in Newtown. The MBA students researched the possible need for a business incubator in Newtown, how it might be established, and the variety of ways creating a resource for the start-up community.

Additional to their store front business, they have launched a national jewelry home party business, similar to Tupperware or Silpada Jewelry, which they will headquarter in Newtown.
