Please Volunteer for SHS Field Day - Friday, May 29th

This year the SHS Field Day will be held on Friday, May 29th from 8:30am to 1:15pm (please note the shorter day). SHS Field day is a wonderful day of activities. The student families get to compete in a variety of fun events (volleyball, capture the flag, running relay, long jump, water relay, softball, soccer, kickball, and ping pong ball relay). It is a fantastic opportunity for the students to show their "Sportsmanship" and "Team Spirit" and for the parents to volunteer and participate in the fun!

We are looking for over 50 parent volunteers to assist with the day's activities, be event runners, and serve lunch.

Jog-A-Thon

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Jog-A-Thon this year. We beat outran our goal by raising $62,000 for our school. Our students and teachers ran a combined total of well more than 4,000 laps. I am very grateful to Deanne Bilsborough and the Jog-A-Thon team for all of their work in organizing, promoting, and executing this fun and profitable event. Our whole school was also very grateful to have Seahawks star Luke Wilson come and talk to the students about the importance of exercise and Catholic education. - Mr. Burroughs

Afternoon Pre-Kindergarten Program

We are happy to announce the opening of an afternoon pre-kindergarten program beginning this fall. The class will run five days per week from 12:10-3:10pm and follow the same curriculum as the morning program. Due to state regulations and academic concerns, students may not sign up for both the morning and afternoon sessions. For more information, e-mail Susana Knapp.

Half Day ESS

Field Day, May 29th, is a half day with dismissal at 1:15. ESS will be available from 1:15-3:15 for those who sign up. Space is limited, so I ask that all families who need ESS that afternoon please sign up as soon as possible by emailing Amy Davis or reserving a spot online.

Staff Updates

I am very pleased to announce that Ms. Jones, who has been teaching Spanish for five years here at SHS, will be teaching middle school math and science next year. Ms. Jones has experience teaching both subjects as she was a 6th grade teacher in a self-contained classroom (where she taught all of the subjects) before coming to SHS to teach Spanish. She is currently finishing her math certification and is looking forward to a new challenge.

Mr. Sarlitto, who is currently teaching middle school religion and science, has decided to seek a new challenge next year by taking his skills to work in Catholic education with an underserved community. Mr. Sarlitto has been active for years in service and outreach in his parish and felt that this was the time to combine his love for service and STEM education. We wish him well in this new endeavor.

After giving birth in April, Mrs. McDougall has decided to return to SHS in the fall. We look forward to having her back again after the summer break.

Mrs. Kirwan, one of our first grade teachers, has announced that she is pregnant and will be having a baby in October. Although she will be out on maternity leave for several weeks, she plans to return to school at the end of her leave. I am currently in the process of identifying a long-term substitute teacher to fill in for her during her leave. I hope to be able to make that announcement by next week.

- Mr. Burroughs
