Holy Week at Sacred Heart Parish and School

Next week is Holy Week, the most important time of the year for Catholics. As we prepare for Good Friday and Easter, we have some special events throughout the week. At the church, I highly recommend the Holy Thursday evening Mass of the Lord's Supper and the Celebration of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday evening. These are wonderful liturgies to help us understand, celebrate, and prepare ourselves spiritually for the suffering, death, and resurrection of our Lord. Finally, if you have never attended the Easter Vigil liturgy, you are missing out on the most beautiful and moving liturgy of the whole year. Come and see.

Here at school, we all celebrate Holy Week with a prayer service on Holy Thursday at 9 a.m. On Good Friday our 5th grade presents four performances of an adapted version of a medieval passion play. This play is a dramatic recreation of the suffering and death of Jesus. All are invited to attend. Finally, on Good Friday, in recognition of the death of Jesus on the cross we exit school at 11:45 silently. We do this bot out of sorrow for the death of our Lord and as a sign of our gratitude for the wonderful gift he gave us.

- Mr. Burroughs

Science Fair

Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the science fair last week. I was impressed overall with the projects, and I heard from several people, including judges, that this year's science fair was the best they'd ever seen. I am grateful to all of our judges, without whom we could not have a science fair. I am grateful as well to all of our parent volunteers and staff who helped with the logistics needed to tabulate scores, feed our judges, set up projects, and much more. A special thanks to Barbara Ennis who came out of "retirement" to help lead the logistics team. Finally, I am grateful to our middle school science teachers who helped our students to choose and prepare their projects, most especially Kaja Works, our 7th and 8th grade science teacher, whose leadership helped to make the whole process smoother and easier for all involved and promoted excitement and learning about science. - Mr. Burroughs

Three Spring Lunch Recess Playground Volunteers Needed

We are in our third (and final) trimester of Lunch Recess coverage for the school year.  Things are looking much brighter than they did during the winter, but we are still in need one person for each day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:10-1:05pm.  If this sounds like a fun way to spend your lunch time, or you have an hour to spare, please e-mail Denise Montoya, our Lunch Recess Playground Volunteer Coordinator and our Vice Principal, Connie Gray

- Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Easter Vacation

If your student will be missing school days either before or after break please send an email to the home room teacher and cc Kerry Wyman at kwyman@sacredheart.org

Culture Fair

Congratulations to our 4th grade students and their teachers on another very successful Culture Fair yesterday. It is always a treat to listen to the 4th grade students sharing what they have learned about the country they are representing. In many cases, the students choose countries connected to their own heritage. It is great to see so many cultures represented from all around the world coming together in our gym. - Mr. Burroughs

Grandparents' and Grandfriends' Day

Sacred Heart School is excited to once again welcome your children's grandparents and grandfriends to our school for a morning of liturgy and time with the children on May 8. As we are busy preparing for this special day, we need your help in letting us know if the grandparentsand/or grandfriends in your family will be attending. Please RSVP your confirmation with the number of grandparents attending as well as their mailing address by clicking on the following webpage. Once we receive your confirmation, we will send out a formal invitation to the attending guests.

It is very important that we receive this information as soon as possible, as we will have a complimentary continental breakfast specifically for the grandparents and grandfriends and we want to ensure the caterer has the correct number of attendees.

- Thank you for your attention and we look forward to welcoming these special guests to our school.

Sock Hop

I am very grateful to everyone who made the recent Father-Daughter Sock Hop such a success! Dad's and daughters danced away the evening, enjoyed tasty snacks and fun games, and posed for loads of pictures that we'll all treasure. I especially want to thank the event organizers: Roxane Barkley, Danielle Limp, Molly Becker, and Megan Weitz. I am very grateful to Pan Fernando for capturing so many memories with her camera (and printing out copies of the pictures for us to take home that night). Finally, I can't forget to thank Elvis Presley (aka Mark Ludwig) who made a very special visit from the beyond as our emcee. - Mr. Burroughs

Yearbook team needs your help! We are looking for candid photos from the school year for all grades - field trips, dances, playground, classroom, science fair, culture fair, wax museum, etc. We are also looking for some great selfies from our students. I know we've all seen them on Instagram so send them to yearbook@sacredheart.org for a special section of the yearbook. Top 5 selfies will receive a Jamba Juice gift card!

Half Day ESS

Good Friday, April 3rd, is a half day with dismissal at 11:45. ESS will be available from 11:45-3:15 for those who sign up. Space is limited, so please email Amy Davis or sign up online to reserve a spot if you would like your child to attend. Students must bring sack lunches.

Fish Fry

Thank you to everyone who attended the Fish Fry last Saturday after the 5:00 Mass. Over 310 people participated! We are grateful to all of the parents and students who helped out and to all who attended. I am especially grateful to Sarah Webster who provided terrific leadership and organization for the event. I look forward to more in the future.

  - Mr. Burroughs
