Auction Fund-a-Need
We have a great start toward achieving our amazing Fund-a-Need this year which will transform our gym. It is the one place in the school the our whole community comes together and it is a showcase for so many of our visitors - Grandparents' Day, CYO games, Playmakers performances, Culture and Science Fairs, Graduation Assemblies, Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfasts, Global Reading Challenge events, and much more. I am pleased to announce that we have commitments for donations toward this project from the Parents' Club, CYO, Playmakers, and the Knights of Columbus as well as several families who have already let us know that they want to make a significant gift toward creating a better gym for all. If you know that you won't be able to attend the auction this year, but are able to make a donation or pledge in advance, we would greatly appreciate it. Your advance donation or pledge will help us to create and sustain the momentum we need to achieve our goal for the Fund-a-Need. - Mr. Burroughs
Calendar Survey and Start Date for 2015-2016
I want to thank everyone who participated in our survey about the start of school for next year. There were some passionate comments on all sides. 68% of the parents and staff who responded want us to start school before Labor Day (almost evenly divided between August 31st and September 1st start dates). The Bellevue School District will start on Tuesday, September 1st. The majority of the Catholic high schools in the area will also start on or before August 31st. For families who have children in more than one school these are important considerations.
So, given all of this, I have decided that we will start school next year on August 31st with a few important differences. Monday through Thursday will be, regular full days (except for kindergarten). Friday, September 4th will be a half day with dismissal at 12:00. We will have no school on Monday, September 7th and Tuesday, September 8th. This will allow us to start school the first week of September and get out by June 17 but also creates a nice Labor Day weekend with time for travel and relaxation. Back to School nights will be the second week of school instead of the first week. I know that summers are precious here in the Northwest and I hope that this solution honors that and keeps our year from extending too far into June. - Mr. Burroughs
Update on IRS Tax Fraud Investigation
As tax season is upon us, it is important to be aware of recent developments in the last year's tax fraud investigation involving volunteers and employees of the Seattle Archdiocese. If you, or anyone you know, was involved in this, the archdiocese has recently highlighted the most important developments and posted them on their website under the tab that says, "Tax Fraud Updated January 14, 2015." The archdiocese is also preparing an updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document which will also be posted on their website as soon as it is completed.

Cold Weather Clothing/Gear Drive for Treehouse
Do you have any jackets or other cold weather gear that your children no longer need?
During the week of February 2-6, SHS will be collecting gently used cold weather clothing and gear (jackets, bibs, pants, mitts, gloves, goggles, snow boots, helmets, etc.) for Treehouse, a non-profit agency that provides essential support to children in foster care throughout King County (this is the sane agency we donate our shoes to each December). Your donated items will be collected by the Student Council in the lower and upper parking lots at morning drop-off. A collection box will also be placed at the front office during these dates. Please take a moment to go through your closets and make a difference in the life of a child in foster care. Thank you!
Called to Protect Class February 11th
(Keep until 2/7) Mark your calendars - Sacred Heart will be hosting a Called to Protect class on Wednesday, February 11th, at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. If you have not yet taken this important training, please make sure to register online. We strongly recommend that all parents take this class, but it is a requirement for those who volunteer at Sacred Heart. This will be your last opportunity to take the class here at Sacred Heart this school year. If you have any questions, please contact Safe Environment Coordinator Amy Davis
Important Changes to No Junk Lunch Service
No Junk is making big changes to their lunch program starting on February 2nd. Please read their message right away. Among other things, pizza will be returning 5 days per week. All orders already placed have been cancelled and your account credited. You will need to place new orders for lunches beginning February 2 (but you can go ahead and place those orders now).
Saint Costume Closet is Now Open
Our Saint Costume Closet is now open thanks to our handy custodian Robert who worked over the holiday break installing shelves and a hanging rod. The space is located in the right hand corner of the stage and is accessible by a key available from the Front Desk. Please feel free to drop off your child's old saint costumes, sashes or any other costume paraphernalia at the front desk. The costumes will be available to all school families to check out and use when needed for such events as all saints parade, Nativity play, the resurrection play and others. Please contact our coordinator [email protected] for any questions.
