Recess playground Volunteers Needed!
We are currently in great need of parent volunteers to help provide supervision for the health and safety of our students on the playground during recess. We have a Sign-up Genius site that lists all of the available slots. If you have even one or two free spots in your schedule between now and March, we would greatly appreciate your help. In the meantime, we are still providing the necessary supervision by asking staff members to take on extra duties. - Mr. Burroughs

Too Many Passwords and User Names?
In response to feedback in our parent surveys, we have chosen an application to help our students and parents easily manage the multiple passwords and user names for all of the programs that our students use. Lastpass.com provides simple, secure password management. All of your child's school passwords will be pre-loaded into an account for them that they can use at school and at home. We will also be sending a list of their passwords to you so that you can load them into your own Lastpass account if you chose. We are making use of the free accounts, but if you would like to access Lastpass on mobile devices and take advantage of other premium features, you are welcome to upgrade your child's free account to a paid version. All of the information about Lastpass will be sent home on Monday. Please look for an email with complete information. - Mr. Burroughs
ITBS Scores
If you did not receive your child's ITBS scores during conferences, look for them in your child's report card this Friday. If you have any questions about the scores, please feel free to contact Ms. Gray or Mr. Burroughs for more information.
Community Alert
It was reported to the Medina Police Department on Tuesday morning that a child walking to Medina Elementary was stopped by a Hispanic female driving a white minivan near the 8300 block of NE 8th. The woman offered the child a ride to school but the child refused not knowing who the woman was, and the woman immediately drove away. Please remind your children to never take rides from strangers or even approach their cars when walking to or from school. If you have information about this incident or witness suspicious activity, please call 911 to report it to the police department.
Morning ESS
Students arriving between 7:00 and 8:10 may attend ESS in the gym. Students arriving after 8:10 should wait outside the school at either the main entrance or the lower lot MS entrance. This helps us to avoid a surge of kids entering the gym during the last few minutes of morning ESS. Thank you for your cooperation.
There will be no after school ESS on Friday, December 19th, which is an early dismissal day.
Advent Concert: Our Holy Family Around the World
All students in Kindergarten through 8th grade participate in the Advent Concert. This year, the performance is on Thursday, December 18th at 6:30pm in the Church. Students must arrive no later than 6pm to meet their classroom/homeroom teacher. Kindergarten will meet in the Youth Room of the Church, and 1st Grade will meet in the Parish Hall. All other grades will meet in their classrooms.
Concert attire: Students should be dressed nicely, like what they would wear for a picture with Santa Claus or for a family Christmas card. Acceptable clothing includes slacks, skirts, dresses, button-up shirts, blouses, polo shirts, etc. Please do not wear jeans, high heeled shoes, or hats. Jewelry, neck-ties, and bow-ties make great festive accessories.
Edmodo: Lyrics and recordings of each grades' songs are now posted on Edmodo! Please visit your grade's Music Edmodo group and open the folder for that grade. You can then view or print the lyrics and sing along with the recordings to practice. We have less than 3 weeks to prepare after we get back from Thanksgiving Break, so please take advantage of this tool.
Grading: We considered giving grades for attending the Advent Concert this year, but since we did not get this communication out to parents earlier, we have decided against it. We strongly encourage everyone to attend our once-a-year all school concert, but there will be no grade attached to whether or not students attend.
Thank you for helping our students prepare for this wonderful concert. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. McDougall.
Pre-K and Kindergarten Applications
As current SHS families, it is time to send in your application(s) + $25 fee for these two grade levels.
- For Pre-K: In order to secure your priority slot in Pre-K 2015, we need to receive your application and 1st month's tuition of $460 no later than Wednesday, December 17th. For those of you that have already submitted your applications, please make the deposit to secure your priority status. If you are interested in Pre-K but have not yet applied, please do so right away and keep the December 17th deadline in mind for payment of deposit.
- For Kindergarten: We have set our Kindergarten assessment dates for January 22-24th. In order to secure your preferred time slot, we will need your application in hand and will start booking assessment times/dates once we get back from Christmas break on Wednesday, January 7th. This year, we will also require our Teacher Recommendation form completed by your child's current Pre-school teacher and sent back directly to us at SHS. This form is available on our website under the admissions tab under application process/forms or I am happy to email a blank copy to you. This form is due on Friday, January 16th. If you have a student currently in SHS Pre-K, just let me know via email if you are interested in Kindergarten. We do not need a new application from you and we will automatically schedule their assessment time during their regular school day here at SHS. Mrs. Thoensen will be completing the teacher recommendation forms accordingly.
