Annual Parish Pledge Reminder
As a ministry of Sacred Heart Parish, Sacred Heart School receives annual financial contributions from the parish amounting to more than 20% of the parish's regular income. As you may have seen in the parish bulletin, contributions have been declining recently. As of today, we are projecting a significant drop in next year's parish contribution to the school. So, please make sure to prayerfully consider how you can support Sacred Heart Parish financially, fill out your pledge card for 2015, and submit it to the parish or school office right away. Thank you for your ongoing support of Sacred Heart Parish and School. - Mr. Burroughs
Homework Feedback, Part II
The Homework Feedback forms sent out last week are intended to be used in exceptional situations. On occasion students may have a significant struggle with a particular concept or assignment or may actually receive too much homework that day to complete in one evening. That is when these forms should be used. They are not meant to be used for extensions for extra work that needs to be made up after an absence or for long-term projects or tests/quizzes. When students are absent, they receive the same number of days to make up the work as the number of days that they were absent. It is, therefore, expected that they will have more than a regular night's amount of homework to complete when they are making up work. Also, tests/quizzes and projects are assigned with enough time for the students to study and/or complete the projects a little bit at a time. Waiting until the last minute to study for a test or work on a project is not a reason to not complete other homework. - Mr. Burroughs and Ms. Gray
December Shoe Liturgy
Can you believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner? This year is going by so fast!! At Sacred Heart School the arrival of Thanksgiving means that it is time to start thinking about our annual Shoe Liturgy. This year's Shoe Liturgy is scheduled for Friday, December 5th at 8:45
am. For those of you who are new to Sacred Heart School, the Shoe Liturgy is a special tradition at our school. We have formed a partnership with Treehouse, an organization that serves foster children in King County. This year we are celebrating our 11th year of partnership with Treehouse.
The idea behind the Shoe Liturgy is that each student does some kind of service to pay for a pair of shoes. Between now and December, students can work at home, help a neighbor, clean out the garage or help decorate for Christmas to earn money for a pair of shoes. You, as the parent, determine when to render 'payment'. The important part of this tradition is that students learn that their service helped benefit someone in need. Once your student has completed their service, they can go pick out a pair of shoes to be donated; the practice has been that students purchase a pair of shoes that is the same size they wear.
On December 5th, students will bring their shoes to school. After the mass, the Student Council will call students by grade level to come up and place their shoes on the steps of the sanctuary; once we are done, Fr. Steve will bless the shoes.
Some specifics we would ask you to remember and details to honor are:
- Shoes stay in the original box
- Do not wrap the box
- Do not include any candy, or other edible items. The warehouse utilized by Treehouse is not air conditioned and items have melted, soiling the shoes. If you wish to include something, we recommend including a pair of socks
- Size: purchase a pair of shoes that fits your students.
Please do not hesitate to email me any questions you might have about this great tradition. We hope to see you at our Annual Shoe Liturgy.
Blessings - Ms Gray

Girl Scouts Halloween Candy Drive
Here is an update for all who participated in the recent SHS 6th grade Cadette Girl Scouts Halloween Candy Drive. Our scouts collected a whopping 356 lbs. of candy that will be sent to overseas troops via Operation Gratitude.
In exchange for the candy collected, our troop netted $356 from orthodontist Dr. Neal. We will use the funds to provide a meal for homeless men this month and apply the remainder toward our annual troop overnight this spring.
