ITBS/CogAT Testing
Standardized testing continues through Wednesday, November 5th for grades 2-8. Please avoid scheduling appointments during that time so that your child can be at school for testing. Also, please make sure that your child gets plenty of rest the night before testing and eats a good breakfast in the morning.
Absences
Sacred Heart School records excused and unexcused absences for students. The full explanation of the difference can be found in the
Policy and Procedure Manual on the school's website. Please note, though that only the total number of absences (excused and unexcused) is recorded on each student's permanent record and is reported on high school applications. No distinction is made for either of these purposes between excused and unexcused absences. - Mr. Burroughs
Student-led Conferences
This year we have moved our student-led conferences to the beginning of Thanksgiving Week. Conferences are an important part of the educational process here at SHS and an important opportunity for teachers, students, and parents to check-in together face-to-face. All families are expected to schedule and attend a conference for each of their children during these two and a half days. We are asking that families who will not be travelling a long distance for Thanksgiving to schedule their conferences on Tuesday or Wednesday if possible so that families who are travelling a long distance can hold their conferences on Monday or Tuesday. We appreciate everyone's cooperation with this new conference schedule. - Mr. Burroughs
Seventh and Eighth Grade Dance
Our first student council dance of the year is scheduled for TOMORROW from
6:30-9pm in the gym. The theme is Halloween and students are encouraged to come in costume, but it is not required. Dance attire, including costumes worn, needs to follow the school's free dress code. The ticket price is $10 per student which will be collected at the door.
A special thank you to our 7th grade CCCs for their assistance with this dance. As a reminder, parents are asked to come into the gym at the end of the dance to pick up their students rather than waiting outside. We look forward to seeing your students at the dance. Any questions should be directed to - Ms. Gray
Handicapped Parking
In the interest of supporting the elderly and handicapped members of our school and parish community, please do not park in the handicapped parking spaces even for a short time. The school staff has changed its parking in order to increase the number of open parking spaces close to the school which means that there is usually an open space close to the school. If not, there are almost always spaces a bit farther away in the lot near the parish offices. Thank you for your cooperation and for setting a good example for all of our students.
-Mr. Burroughs
Official Uniform Policy Change
After careful consideration and discussion with the teachers, Fr. Steve, Ms. Gray and I have decided to change the school's uniform policy to allow students to wear their polo shirts untucked during the day except to Mass and assemblies. For the past two years we have asked students to keep their shirts tucked in throughout the day. The teachers found that this rule created more issues than it solved and distracted from more important behavior standards. Also, for some of our students this rule drew undue attention to their changing bodies as they grow. Our uniform is mean to reduce the distractions and distinctions at school rather than accentuate them or create new ones. For these reasons students may now wear their polo shirts untucked.

SHS Staff Member Birthdays
During the year, we regularly get asked by parents for information about our staff members so that they can do a little something special for them. A few years ago, our CCC Coordinator created a Staff Appreciation Binder which is kept in the front office, in this binder are information sheets completed by all of our staff members, teachers, specialists and instructional aides which list their birthdays, and their likes and interests. Feel free to stop by and take a look at the book. This information is also available on class Shutterfly pages for all of the teachers, instructional aides and specialists involved with your child's grade; birthdays have been added to the page in chronological order on the Home Page along with the information provided about their likes and interests.
