Magazine Drive Results
Thank you for everyone who participated in the magazine drive through your sales and purchases. In just three weeks we sold over $45,000 in magazines and merchandise, which netted the school over $20,000.
Our Top Seller this year was Tony Vowles who sold $3,600 worth of magazines and merchandise.
Our two top-selling classes were Ms. Ward's 7th grade class with sales of $4,800 and Mrs. Luscher's 5th grade class with sales of $4,700. Both classes will receive a pizza party.
I want to thank our magazine drive team for all of their hard work to organize, promote, and coordinate this important fundraiser, especially our Magazine Drive Chairs, Linda Michael and Amy Thies!
Also, if you missed out on making some purchases before today's deadline, you may continue to buy or sell magazines and merchandise throughout the year to receive credit towards your Family Fundraising Requirement (however, no magazine drive prizes).

Next Week is Annual Vision & Hearing Screenings for Students
in Grades K-3, 5 and 7th
Next Wednesday through Friday, we're conducting our annual vision & hearing screenings for students in grades K-3, 5 and 7th. If your child is scheduled for screening and wears glasses, please make sure the glasses come to school with your child.
If a child's results don't meet the screening standards, the child will be re-screened within 2 weeks for vision and 6 weeks for hearing. If after re-screening, the results still have failed to meet the standards, you'll receive a copy of the results. Normal results will NOT be sent home.
All vision and hearing screenings are conducted by our great parent volunteers. We still have volunteer openings that must be filled. If you're available to help, please e-mail our health screening volunteer coordinator Brianna Bennitt.
If you have any questions about the health screening, please e-mail
Ann Marie Thompson.
Water in the Classrooms
For many years now, we have provided water to students in the classroom. We are going to continue to do so, but we are making a change in grades 5-8 in how the water is provided. In those grades we are asking that all students bring to class a reusable water bottle (not a disposable bottle as they tend to crush and tip over more easily and have other possible problems). Students are asked to fill up their bottles and drink from them at their seats. This reduces both the need for frequent trips to the water dispenser and the trash generated by all of the disposable cups. Please remind your child to bring his or her bottle home frequently to be washed. As we review this change, other teachers in lower grades may begin to introduce this change as well.

Upper Lot Parking
Due to changes in the parking in the upper lot and parent feedback in last year's annual surveys, I have asked the school staff to refrain from parking (except temporarily) in the spaces along the planter at the south side of the "play area" in the upper lot during school hours. These seven spaces plus the three temporary parking spaces (near the Moore Theater) will hopefully make it easier for parents, visitors, and others to find parking in the upper lot that is close to the school. However, at some times of the day and on certain days, the upper lot may still be full. We are doing our best, though, to make it more convenient for all of our families to visit the school. - Mr. Burroughs
Photos of Students
It is the practice of Sacred Heart School to take frequent photographs of our students at events throughout the year, on the playground, and in their classrooms. These photographs are used on the school's website, Facebook page, reader board in the front lobby, and in various publications. Students are never identified in photographs by last name. Please send a message to Mr. Burroughs by October 8, 2014 if you do not want your child's photograph to be used in these ways. - Mr. Burroughs
Safe Environment Refresher Courses
The Safe Environment online refresher courses are now available. Anyone who completed the Called to Protect for Ministries class prior to July of 2014 is currently due to take an online refresher course. This is an annual requirement that resets for everyone over the summer (so even if you did an online refresher course last spring, you are currently due to take another one). Click here for log-on instructions. In order to maintain your eligibility as a volunteer, it is important to stay up to date with your Safe Environment training. Contact Amy Davis if you have any questions.
Illness Prevention
Fall is here and with the weather's change often brings with it an increase in colds, viruses and the flu. Click Here for important information on the flu season: symptoms, how the flu spreads and how it can be prevented. In the hopes of keeping our students and staff healthy, we ask that you keep your students home whenever they have a fever and until they have fully recovered from the flu or illness. The prevention tips for flu also apply to how to prevent the getting sick with colds and viruses. Check out our health room page for more information on our illness policy and what is required in order for a student to have any medication at school.

Emergency Contact System
Sacred Heart School sends out information about emergency closures via our school Twitter account. You can sign up to follow Sacred Heart School's Twitter account by texting "Follow SacredHeartSch" to the number 40404. By doing this you will receive emergency information as a text message on your phone within seconds of it being sent out. Signing up to follow SHS does not mean that you are signed up for a Twitter account. That is a separate procedure. You will only receive emergency information through this account. We will not use it to send any other kind of information. You may also want to have you child's nanny, grandparents, or anyone else who might pick up your child to follow us, too.
