Safe Environment Refresher Courses
The Safe Environment online refresher courses are now available. Anyone who completed the Called to Protect for Ministries class prior to July of 2014 is currently due to take an online refresher course. This is an annual requirement that resets for everyone over the summer (so even if you did an online refresher course last spring, you are currently due to take another one). Click here for log-on instructions. In order to maintain your eligibility as a volunteer, it is important to stay up to date with your Safe Environment training. Contact Amy Davis if you have any questions.
If you are not intending to volunteer with children or vulnerable adults but would like to know more about how to help keep children safe, you can attend a class tonight at St. Monica Church on Mercer Island at 6pm. Please note: this class does not fulfill your training requirement if you are planning to volunteer with children or vulnerable adults.

Why should I donate to the Treasures of Faith Annual Fund?
By supporting the Treasures of Faith Annual Fund at Sacred Heart School, you are supporting the mission of Catholic Schools.
That means that as a community, we provide an excellent academic education in an environment of faith and virtue to ALL who seek it. In order to ensure our school is financially available to everyone, we rely on funds from Flexible Fundraising, the Gala Auction and the Treasures of Faith Annual Fund.
This year, Treasures of Faith will help fund our school counselor being on-site four days a week, new textbooks for the students, Spanish education from Kindergarten through 8th grade, and more. We continue to strive toward excellence in education in all facets. In order to do this, we ask that you consider financially committing to this mission as well.
The Treasures of Faith Annual Fund is 100% tax deductible and is also available for Employer Matching contributions. Our budget for the Treasures of Faith this year is $225,000. We need your support to achieve this number. The goal is to achieve 100% of our budget within the first 100 days of school, which is January 22, 2015. Please consider being a part of the financial mission of our school.
You can donate today by clicking on this link: Treasures of Faith. Or, you can drop a check at the front desk to the attention of the Annual Fund.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Theresa Daigle, Development Director. Thank you for considering this important request.

Chess Club Coordinator Needed for 2014-15 School Year
We are still looking for a parent to coordinate the Sacred Heart School Chess Club. Chess Club meets for an hour after school one day a week. There are two ten-week sessions during the year and instructors are from Chess4Life.
The Chess Club coordinator will coordinate with Chess4Life regarding the schedule and procure two classrooms for Chess Club to meet. They are also in charge of getting parents to supervise each week while the instructors are teaching.
Sacred Heart is respected as an elementary school chess team, winning many team trophies over the last 6 years, and sending several students to the Washington State Chess Tournament each spring.
Please consider volunteering to keep this tradition alive! Chess study has shown to increase math skills, memory and self-confidence, along with improve patience, concentration, and sportsmanship.
