Safe Environment Program

In accordance with the Safe Environment Program, we are asking all new parents to fill out background check paperwork. Please note that while you may have submitted a form during registration, due to a change in background check providers we have to ask you to complete the new form. The current background check form must be submitted in person in order for ID to be verified. You may also register for the Called to Protect Class we are hosting September 10th. This class not only provides valuable abuse prevention information to parents, but is a requirement for anyone who intends to volunteer at the school.

Middle School Service Opportunity

Students and adult chaperones are needed to support the Renewal Food Bank's food drive at the QFC on NE 8th in Bellevue on Saturday, September 27. The shifts are two hours each, starting at 9 a.m. and running until 3 p.m. All student volunteers are asked to wear their school uniform (it helps with donations). Middle school students earn service hours for working at this event.

Treasures of Faith Annual Fund

For those of you who pledged their donation to the Treasures of Faith Annual Fund in the Spring, Thank You. Your pledge helps to sustain the school's instructional programs and to foster student learning and growth. This gift is an investment in the future of our students and of Sacred Heart School itself. A Catholic education makes a permanent and positive difference in the lives of all who benefit. If you still haven't pledged or donated, there is still time. Please take a moment to prayerfully consider donating to this important fund.

This year your gift will help provide a school counselor on-site for four days a week, additional materials for our library and health room, Spanish curriculum for grades K-8, new textbooks and more.

You may also consider increasing your pledge by 10% to help us meet the budgeted goal of $225,000. You can make your donation today by clicking on the following link:  Annual Fund Donation. Many companies offer a Matching Gifts program. If you are interested in having your donation increased by your employer, please check with your human relations department or email Theresa Daigle. We work with many employers in the Greater Seattle area.

Sacred Heart School is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Your contribution is tax deductible within the limits allowed by law. We certify that you received no goods or services in exchange for this donation.

Thank you, once again, for supporting Sacred Heart School.

Cross Country - Any Course, Any Time!

Registration:  Cross Country online registration is underway.  Sign up here.

Practices: TBA

Meets:  All meets are at Woodland Park in Seattle (by the Zoo). Parking is challenging, so plan ahead.

All runners must complete the course in one of the two preliminary meets to qualify for the Championships

Meet Times:

Qualification Meets

- All Grades: Sunday, September 21, 2014

- All Grades: Sunday, September 28, 2014

Final Meets

- Kindergarten - 3rd Grade: Sunday, October 5, 2014

- 4th Grade - 8th Grade: Sunday, October 12, 2014

Goals:  The goal of Cross Country to have fun, cheer all runners, make each runner feel an important part of the team.  To encourage our children to be part of something bigger than themselves.  To encourage school and especially Parish spirit and unity by encouraging those students who do not attend Sacred Heart to join and feel a very important contributing member to our team.  Yes, they are just like us too busy and have no time for this so that is obviously no excuse.  Encourage them all to have fun.

Activities

Chess Club Coordinator Needed for 2014-15 School Year

We are still looking for a parent to coordinate the Sacred Heart School Chess Club.   Chess Club meets for an hour after school one day a week. There are two ten-week sessions during the year and instructors are from Chess4Life.

The Chess Club coordinator will coordinate with Chess4Life regarding the schedule and procure two classrooms for Chess Club to meet.  They are also in charge of getting parents to supervise each week while the instructors are teaching.

Sacred Heart is respected as an elementary school chess team, winning many team trophies over the last 6 years, and sending several students to the Washington State Chess Tournament each spring.

Please consider volunteering to keep this tradition alive!  Chess study has shown to increase math skills, memory and self-confidence, along with improve patience, concentration, and sportsmanship.

To volunteer or ask questions, email Gena McReynolds
