Thank You School Commission and Parents Club Board
I want to thank all of the members of the Parents Club Board and the School Commission for another great year of service to the school. I truly would not be able to do my work without their support, advice, and expertise. I especially want to thank our outgoing members for their years of dedicated service: from Parents Club Board - Joanne Barber and Angie Taylor; and from School Commission - Jamie Reding, Annette Seats, and Kevin Schreck. May God bless them for all of their good work. - Mr. Burroughs
State of the School Update and Annual Parent Survey
The last month has been busier than anticipated but I have not forgotten either of these important items. The annual parents' survey, which was given for the last five years, has been revised by the school commission in order to gather some more focused information, clarify some questions, and bring consistency to the rating systems throughout. Please look for both the survey and state of the school report next week. I encourage everyone to read the report and then participate in the survey. - Mr. Burroughs
Summer Skills
Below is a link to the Summer Skills requirements for our current and incoming kindergarten through seventh grade students. Included are the links for Tri-C Publications, for those of you who prefer to use a booklet for summer Math Review, as well as the links to the Summer Reading assignments for our current K-4 students. We have listed the book options for our current 5th - 7th grade students. We have made some changes to this book list, so we are still revising the packets; we will have those to you in the next couple of weeks.
Summer Skills Link
If you have any questions about Sacred Heart's Summer Math, please contact your child's teacher or Mrs. Lawler. Questions about Summer Reading can be directed to your child's teacher or Ms. Gray.
Congratulations to Tim Murphy for receiving the St. John Bosco Award for Service to CYO Athletics! This award is given to those whose service as a volunteer to youth through CYO Athletics has gone above and beyond the "normal" call ofduty and provided wide ranging impact in the administration of the program. Tim was one of four people recognized for their service to CYO.
Thank you to all you who voted for this year's Distinguished Staff and Teacher Awards. The awards were presented to both of our recipients during the Mass on May 30th and caught them both by surprise! Congratulations to Paula McLeod who was awarded the Distinguished Staff Award; Paula works as the KA Instructional Aide, but is best known for the love and attention she gives all of our students as the Lunchroom Supervisor. Congratulations also to Zack Cunningham. Zack is a middle school teacher. This year, Zack received his degree in educational administration. Both Paula and Zack received well-deserved accolades from our parent, staff and student community.
SCRIP Program
Our Scrip program has enjoyed a great year of success, exceeding $20,000 in revenue. This is a great rebound from the many important and necessary changes of the year before. I want to thank everyone who participates in the scrip program - supporting the school with the purchases you are already making. I especially want to thank Beth Granlund for her leadership and promotion of the program. Her customer service and advertising have made it easier for everyone to meet their flexible fundraising goal of $300 by purchasing scrip.
- Mr. Burroughs
Sacred Heart Boy Scout Religious Emblem Awards
During the May 30th Mass, Fr. Steve awarded Nicholas Davila, William McCabe and Andrew Reinke the National Catholic Committee on Scouting Light of Christ Award; this award is given after months of work to show that the scout has developed a personal relationship with Jesus. Conner Fitzgerald, Max Herendeen, Joseph O'Malley and Jonathan Webster were also awarded the Parvuli Dei Award. This award shows that the scout has discovered the presence of God in his daily life and also developed a good, positive self-image through the contributions they make to the group or community.
New Background Check Procedures
In an effort to better secure your personal information, the Archdiocese has switched to a new background check provider that does not require Social Security numbers. For that reason, it will be necessary for your identification (driver's license) to be checked when you submit background check paperwork to ensure that the name, address, and date of birth match those on the form. Existing background checks are still valid, so you will not be asked to fill out a new form until you are due for a three year update. Please contact Amy Davis with any questions.
Called to Protect Class September 10th
Mark your calendars - Sacred Heart will be hosting a Called to Protect class on Wednesday, September 10th, at 6:30pm. If you have not yet taken this important training, please make sure to register online. We strongly recommend that all parents take this class, but it is a requirement for those who will be doing any volunteering at Sacred Heart. If you have any questions, please contact Safe Environment Coordinator Amy Davis
Pack the Pack
Mr. Cunningham's Homeroom class is collecting new backpacks, school supplies, and socks for local migrant worker children in Skagit County.
As 7th Graders, we took part in a service retreat at a parish in Burlington, and this year we decided to continue our social justice service to the children of the community.
Donations are greatly appreciated! If you are able, we are asking for new socks, new backpacks, and/or cash donations to help a cause that we believe is important in our greater community.
Donations can be collected Donations can be collected at the main office. Please label them: "Mr. Cunningham's Homeroom Pack the Pack Drive". Please make any checks payable to Sacred Heart School. Thank you for your help!
ESS Registration for 2014-2015
It's that time of year again! Click here to view ESS registration paperwork for next school year. This paperwork is due by June 1st for full time and part time use. No forms are necessary if you intend to only utilize ESS occasionally using the drop-in website. Please contact Amy Davis with any questions.
Reserved Parking Spaces
Although there are only a few weeks left in the school year, I want to remind everyone that the spaces marked as reserved for the Lincoln and Vipond families are reserved for them 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Please do not use these spaces even for "just a few minutes." We have three spaces between them designated for short-term parking. If those are full, please find another parking spot in the upper or lower lot. These families have generously purchased these parking spaces at the auction. When other people use them (and the Lincoln and Vipond families cannot use them) it makes their spaces worth less at the next auction, which costs the school money. Please be considerate and do not park in these reserved spaces. Thank you for understanding. - Mr. Burroughs
Lost and Found - LAST CHANCE
Please take a moment to come into the school and check the Lost and Found closet for any unmarked clothing that may belong to your family. It is extremely full and we will be donating most unclaimed items to the CARE program in Tukwila on Saturday, June 7th.
