2014-15 Student Council

On Tuesday of this week, current fifth through seventh grade students interested in running for Student Council were invited to come talk with this year's Student Council Members and hear more about the job, as well as pick up information about the upcoming Election Process.  There are 8 members on our Student Council; President (only current 7th graders can run), Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer (any of these positions can be filled by current 6th or 7th graders), Sports Commissioner, Faith Commissioner, Spirit Commission (may be filled be a current 5th, 6th or 7th graders) and the Activities Commission (must be filled by a current 6th or 7th grade; one of the major duties of this person is to organize Student Council dances.)  Students can return their Election Packets on Tuesday, May 13th, but no later than Wednesday, May 14th.  Once I have reviewed a student's packet they can begin campaigning; our Election Assembly is on Friday, May 16th.  If any interested student was not able to pick up a packet, they may pick one up in the front office.  More information about the duties of each position will be posted on our website soon.  - Ms. Gray

Summer Programs at Sacred Heart School

  • Ms. Hayter's class for Current 3rd and 4th Grade Students:  Students can spend a week with Ms. Hayter working on their Summer Reading assignment and their Summer Math. She also plans to include some fun Art activities and games, as well as spend time with students on a fun Writing Activity.  If you are interested in Ms. Hayter's, please click here for the registration form.  Please make sure you put your name on the registration form.  I received one for the week of July 7th with no name.
  • Ms. Harris' Program for Current 2nd Grade Families:  As with Ms. Hayter's class, Ms. Harris will be offering two different sessions; the first session will use the book Sarah Plain and Tall, one of the two 3rd Grade Summer Reading options, and the second session will focus on book, Kindred Souls.  Please click here for more information.  We are asking families to register for this class by emailing both Ms. Harris and Ms. Gray with their choice of week/s.

Thank You!

I want to thank Bridget Darrow for brightening up the entrance to our school by planting flowers in the two large planters that had become trash receptacles. They add a real touch of spring to our school. I also want to thank Paul Schaefer for re-striping the foursquare grids in the upper and lower parking lots so that all of our students have space to play at recess.

- Mr. Burroughs

From The Service Board - Class Community Coordinators for 2014-15 Needed

Thank you for those of you who took on the role of Class Community Coordinator this year.  This position is an important link between the classroom and parents and is important to the overall functioning of our school community.  We are looking for volunteers who are interested in taking on this service job for the 2014-2015 academic year.

  • Each Grade will have two "Class Community Coordinators" who will work as a team to support their Grade's Teaching Team and parent community; the specifics for the position will differ for each grade.  The CCCs should be comfortable with email, interacting with teachers, administration, as well as fellow parents and members of the Community.  The CCCs must also be able to use, or will to learn how to use, Shutterfly.  This positions runs from July of this year through June of next year.

If you would like to be considered for the role of CCC for a particular grade please email Connie Gray

Personnel Change

I am sorry to announce that Ms. Maloney, one of our 1st Grade teachers, has announced her resignation as she is planning to marry in the fall and is hoping to start her family right away (and then bring her children to Sacred Heart for pre-k). We have already begun the search for a new teacher. I hope to be able to introduce all of our new teachers in next week's edition. Please join me in thanking Ms. Maloney for her five years of loving service to Sacred Heart School. - Mr. Burroughs

Placement/Teacher Request Policy

Our classroom teachers work exceptionally hard on classroom placements each year and a considerable amount of time is spent trying to balance classes academically, emotionally and socially.

Families with specific educational reasons may request in writing a classroom placement prior to Friday, May 9, 2014.  All Placement Requests must go directly to the Vice Principal for students entering K-5.  Included in the request must be reasons why a specific teacher is best able to meet the individual child's educational needs.  We are only able to consider Placement Requests made in writing.  Requests made to classroom teachers are not a guarantee of placement.  If you have information that you believe needs to be considered in your child's classroom placement, please submit a Placement Request.

Educationally valid requests submitted before the deadline will be reviewed and considered when making placement decisions. However, not all requests can be accommodated.  Please click here for the Placement Request Form.

Treasures of Faith Annual Fund Update

We are currently at 66% of our budgeted goal ($225,000) for the Treasures of Faith Annual Fund. With your help, we can reach our goal by the end of May! The teachers and faculty have joined in by supporting the annual fund through their donations as well.

Even though the Annual Fund is 100% voluntary, we rely on these monies to support our operational budget.  Many schools receive close to 100% participation in their annual fund from their community. Currently, only about 80% of the Sacred Heart School community supports our annual fund. We are asking that every family prayerfully consider supporting this most important fund. Not only will that allow us to meet our budgeted goal, but 100% participation will allow us to seek foundational grants for special programs and capital improvements.

We need an additional $89,000 to reach our goal. Please feel free to make your donation at the following website:  Treasures of Faith or you can drop off a check made payable to Sacred Heart School to the attention of Theresa Daigle.

Thank you for your consideration.
