Our Lenten Journey
This week, CRS Rice Bowl invites us to enter into solidarity with the people of Haiti. We are encouraged to reflect on the Catholic social teaching principle, Call to Family, Community and Participation, and reminded that, as social beings, we are called to seek God together. Let us pray this week for our brothers and sisters in Haiti and all around the world, that our families and communities may be strengthened and blessed. CRS works in Haiti to ensure that hospitals have properly trained staff and equipment. They also work to prevent disease and boost nutrition by training community volunteers who can provide basic health services and advice.
The following CRS videos focus on how CRS and the rice bowl donations are working for the people of Haiti and also a simple meal from Haiti. Recipes and information are also available on your Rice Bowl calendar.

Rice Bowl Reminder!
Money collected during Lent in your rice bowls should be returned to school for our Holy Thursday prayer service on April 17th. If parents want to count up the money in the rice bowl and then return the money in the form of a check in the rice bowl, please make the check to "Sacred Heart School", with 'CRS Rice Bowl' in the memo line.
School Commission Members Needed for Next Year
We are currently seeking individuals to join the school commission next year to replace members whose terms are expiring. The school commission is an advisory board that supports Fr. Steve and Mr. Burroughs with advice and expertise related to school policies, budget, and strategic planning. We are especially seeking individuals who have expertise in law, facilities, or marketing. All school commission members must be confirmed Catholics and may not be employed by or married to someone employed by Sacred Heart School or Parish. Monthly meetings are scheduled on the second Wednesday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. If you would like to join the discernment process for next year's school commission, please contact Mr. Burroughs for more information.

Seventh and Eighth Graders off to Washington, DC!
Sixty-seven students and seven chaperones will spend their spring break touring Washington, DC, Colonial Williamsburg, and Jamestown. This optional trip carries on a long tradition here at Sacred Heart. Four students will have the honor of placing a wreath from our school at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery. They were the winners of an essay contest. Those laying the wreath are Hank Przelenski, Erik Anderson, Michael O'Toole, and Timothy Wang. Congratulations!
Grandparent's and Grandfriend's Day - May 9th
Please RSVP your confirmation with the number of grandparents attending as well as their mailing address by clicking on the following webpage (GP/GF Day). Once we receive your confirmation, we will send out a formal invitation to the attending guests.
It is very important that we receive this information as soon as possible, as we will have a complimentary continental breakfast specifically for the grandparents and grandfriends and we want to ensure the caterer has the correct number of attendees.
2014-2015 School Calendar
The 2014-2015 school calendar is now posted to our website. Student-parent-teacher conferences will move from the end of October to the week of Thanksgiving. This accomplishes two important things. First, it consolidates the disruptions in the schedule to one week instead of two, allowing us to have more solid teaching time. Second, the conferences will now be an opportunity for students and parents to receive the first trimester report card and ITBS scores and discuss them with the teacher (along with the first trimester's SMART goals). All parents and students will still be expected to attend a conference on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of that week (Wednesday will be a half day). So, please plan that in to your schedule if you are making travel plans for Thanksgiving. - Mr. Burroughs
Registration for Summer Programs is Still Open
- Ms. Hayter's class: If you are interested in Ms. Hayter's Summer Program for current 3rd and 4th Grade students, please click here for the registration form. If we do not have a registration form with your child's name, we will not be able to guarantee your child a spot.
- Ms. Harris' Program for Current 2nd Grade Families: As with Ms. Hayter's class, Ms. Harris will be offering two different sessions; the first session will use the book Sarah Plain and Tall, one of the two 3rd Grade Summer Reading options, and the second session will focus on book, Kindred Souls. Please click here for more information. We are asking families to register for this class by emailing both Ms. Harris and Ms. Gray with their choice of week/s.
Boots Reminder
Somehow the month of April has snuck up on us. This is just a friendly reminder that it is time to put the boots away. Fortunately, looking at the forecast, it looks like spring is on its way!
Placement/Teacher Request Policy
Our classroom teachers work exceptionally hard on classroom placements each year and a considerable amount of time is spent trying to balance classes academically, emotionally and socially.
Families with specific educational reasons may request in writing a classroom placement prior to Friday, May 9, 2014.
All Placement Requests must go directly to the Vice Principal for students entering K-5. Included in the request must be reasons why a specific teacher is best able to meet the individual child's educational needs. We are only able to consider Placement Requests made in writing. Requests made to classroom teachers are not a guarantee of placement. If you have information that you believe needs to be considered in your child's classroom placement, please submit a Placement Request.
Educationally valid requests submitted before the deadline will be reviewed and considered when making placement decisions. However, not all requests can be accommodated. Please click here for the Placement Request Form.
