Our Lenten Journey
This week, CRS Rice Bowl invites us to enter into solidarity with the people of Malawi. We are encouraged to reflect on the Catholic social teaching principle, Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers. We are reminded that, just as He labored to create the universe, God sanctifies and calls us to work. Let us pray this week for our brothers and sisters in Malawi and all around the world that we work with joy for God's greater glory. CRS works in Malawi to assist families in improving their agricultural practices. The following CRS videos focus on how CRS and the rice bowl donations are working for the people of Malawi and also a simple meal from Malawi. Recipes and information are also available on your Rice Bowl calendar.

Grandparent's and Grandfriend's Day
Sacred Heart School is excited to once again welcome the grandparent's and grandfriend's to our school for a morning of liturgy and time with the children on May 9. As we are busy preparing for this special day, we need your help in letting us know if the grandparent's and/or grandfriend's in your family will be attending.
Please RSVP your confirmation with the number of grandparents attending as well as their mailing address by clicking on the following webpage (GP/GF Day). Once we receive your confirmation, we will send out a formal invitation to the attending guests.
It is very important that we receive this information as soon as possible, as we will have a complimentary continental breakfast specifically for the grandparents and grandfriends and we want to ensure the caterer has the correct number of attendees.
- Thank you for your attention and we look forward to welcoming these special guests to our school.
2014-2015 School Calendar
The 2014-2015 school calendar is now posted to our website. We will start school next year on the day after Labor Day. The calendar for next year is very similar to this year's with two notable changes.
The first is that the archdiocesan in-service day that usually occurred on the Friday of the second week of school has been pushed back to the first Friday of October. This change by the archdiocese will allow our school to get started with a regular weekly schedule beginning with the second week of school and should help the transition into the new school year.
A more significant change is the decision to move our student-parent-teacher conferences from the end of October to the week of Thanksgiving. This accomplishes two important things. First, it consolidates the disruptions in the schedule to one week instead of two, allowing us to have more solid teaching time. Second, the conferences will now be an opportunity for students and parents to receive the first trimester report card and ITBS scores and discuss them with the teacher (along with the first trimester's SMART goals). All parents and students will still be expected to attend a conference on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of that week (Wednesday will be a half day). So, please plan that in to your schedule if you are making travel plans for Thanksgiving. We also ask that those who are staying local for Thanksgiving will schedule their conferences for either later in the day on Tuesday or on Wednesday.
I believe that both of these changes will benefit our students, teachers, and parents.
